Roman Polanski reportedly attended the Gdynia Film Festival Friday.

Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski reportedly attended the Gdynia Film Festival Friday.

The director is believed to have travelled from his French home to Gdynia Thursday evening for “a high-security invitation-only screening” of his new drama Venus in Fur at the 38th Gdynia Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The filmmaker reportedly gave a master class to film students and then made a public appearance at the event on Friday.

Roman, who is a French citizen, fled the US in 1977 after pleading guilty to charges of sex with a 13-year-old girl and remains subject to an international arrest warrant, as THR reports.

He was arrested after travelling to the Zurich Film Festival in 2009 and put under house arrest at his home in Gstaad but US law enforcement failed to extradite him.

Spokespersons for the Gdynia Film Festival would not confirm Roman’s attendance.

Members of the press were reportedly barred from attending the master class.

A student who attended the lecture described how Roman commented on “the process of going from script to screen” and was not asked about his return to Poland.

Venus in Fur stars Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathieu Amalric in a story about an actress trying to convince a director to cast her.

It is unclear when Roman might return to France following reports of his attendance at the screening.

Rooney Mara: I’m no uptown girl

Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara prefers to live in downtown New York as opposed to the classy uptown area.

The 28-year-old actress enjoys being surrounded by artistic people and always opts to stay in the downtown area of the cities she travels to.

The New York native even has specific rules about where she will hang out in the Big Apple.

“I always prefer to live downtown,” she told E! News. “I feel like downtown more just stands for where the artists are. When I’m living in New York, I try never to go uptown… above 24th street.”

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo actress is younger sister to House of Cards star Kate Mara, 30.

Since finding fame with her sibling she hasn’t felt the pressure to impress her peers with her appearance when attending showbiz bashes.

“You come out here to be judged,” Rooney confessed. “That’s sort of what it is. But you just have to try not to think about it.

“I always want to feel like myself. I always want to feel comfortable. You know, if people don’t like it then that’s OK.”

Rooney has only just re-emerged in the spotlight to promote new film Her, co-starring Joaquin Phoenix.

She claims she hasn’t worked since last November so she can get a sense of normalcy, but now after a lengthy break she’s ready to get back on set.

“Well, I did four movies in a row. I did Side Effects. Then I did Spike’s movie [Her]. Then I did Terrence Malick’s movie [still untitled]. Then I was like, ‘Oh my God. I’m never working again,’” she said to CinemaBlend.

“And that’s a long, hat was a long time to take off for me. Now, I’m working in September, but I only just now feel ready to work.”

Bakula on his Emmy night nerves

Scott Bakula is up for an Emmy for Behind The Candelabra

Scott Bakula has confessed he’ll probably be battling the nerves as the Emmys draw closer.

The former Quantum Leap star is nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Mini-Series Or Movie award for his performance in Behind The Candelabra.

Asked if he is looking forward to the ceremony on September 22, he said: “Yeah, you know, the last Emmy nomination I had was 20 years ago for Quantum Leap. I’m sure when it gets closer, I’ll be nervous about it.

“Every once in a while you get nominated for these things and they tell you beforehand that you’ve won it, and somehow that’s nicer than having to sit in front of the world, win or lose. But it’s great for the movie, and all the acknowledgement that it got, it was a great piece and we worked hard.”

Scott, 58, said he had a great time making the movie, which also stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon and was directed by Steven Soderbergh.

He said: “Steven is a gifted, gifted film-maker, and Matt, not only is he a great actor, he’s a lot of fun to be with on the set, as is Michael Douglas. We just laughed a lot.

“I feel fortunate to represent the movie, but anybody could have had the nomination, it could have been Dan Ackroyd or Rob Lowe or Tom Pappas… Everybody in the movie was great, I thought the casting directors did a fantastic job.”

:: Scott can be seen in Star Trek: Enterprise, weeknights at 8pm on CBS Action.

Speaking to The Daily Star about the film in 2011, Reynolds said: “The Adam Ant project is my first step into the film business. The Entourage movie has reportedly been delayed over pay negotiations.

Jeremy Piven has reportedly signed up for the Entourage film

The Entourage movie has reportedly been delayed over pay negotiations.

The movie adaptation of the TV show, starring Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier, was due to go ahead earlier this year but has been halted while wage details are ironed out, according to The New York Post‘s Page Six.

It seems some of the stars are hoping to negotiate more money for the film.

A source said: “They wanted to start filming early this summer, but the cast has been on hold. Jeremy finally signed his contract two weeks ago. His deal closed August 29. But there are other members of the cast, including Adrian Grenier and Jerry Ferrara, who are still holding out.”

The popular HBO comedy drama series ran from 2004 until 2011 and earlier this year a film version was given the go ahead.

Several of the original stars are due to reprise their roles from the show about up and coming film star Vincent Chase (Adrian) and his friends.

The plot is thought to focus on the lead characters – Vincent, Ari Gold (Jeremy), Eric ‘E’ Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry) and Johnny ‘Drama’ Chase (Kevin Dillon).

The film will be directed by series creator Doug Ellin.

Ariana fries voice

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande will not be able to sing for at least four days after harming her vocals.

The 20-year-old singer was forced to keep quiet by doctors after learning she had fried her vocal cords this week.

The star is not allowed to even talk while she tries to get her throat back to normal, according to TMZ.

A source told the website that after she performed at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night she “badly strained her vocal chords”. Then when she appeared on a radio show on Tuesday she was unable belt out a tune, leaving her devastated.

After rushing to a medical expert, Ariana was told to stay mum for at least four days and as a result she has had to cancel several media appearances in America, including The Queen Latifah Show and The Arsenio Hall Show.

Her new album Yours Truly recently topped the charts but she won’t be able to promote it in person for the time being.

“First day off in forever… Vocal rest and watching movies in with my best friend @alexaluria dunno what I’d do without her,” she tweeted on Wednesday.

Ariana was thought to be dating The Wanted member Nathan Sykes after they collaborated on track Almost Is Never Enough, which featured in movie The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

And it seems she may have the same problem he had earlier this year when he needed an operation on his vocal cords, which has since seen him recover.

Ariana denied she was seeing Nathan romantically in an Access Hollywood interview aired on Wednesday.

“No, no — we’re not dating,” Ariana said. “He’s the sweetest. He’s amazing. I have to say, he’s one of the most talented vocalists I’ve ever heard in my life. And live, all the time, he’s like, spot on.”

Kristen raised 500k meeting prince

Kristen Stewart auctioned off her time to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims

Kristen Stewart has raised 500,000 dollars for charity by spending just 15 minutes with a Middle Eastern prince.

The Twilight star helped the Hurricane Sandy fundraising effort by agreeing to the deal which was brokered by Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, according to the Daily Mail.

The unnamed prince paid the bill upfront to spend just 15 minutes to sit and talk with Kristen, 23, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Harvey gathered together many of his high-profile friends to raise money for the relief effort at the benefit concert last summer, including The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Sir Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Sir Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen.

The event raised 65 million dollars for the Robin Hood Foundation which benefited victims of the storm.

Harvey revealed the story about Kristen at a screening of a documentary about the concert, which was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Russell has admiration for Stamp

Kurt Russell worked with Terence Stamp on new heist movie The Art of Steal

Kurt Russell has revealed how excited he was to work with Terence Stamp on his latest movie The Art of the Steal.

The Hollywood veteran, who has been in a relationship with Goldie Hawn for thirty years, plays a part-time art thief and motorcycle daredevil in the heist film.

Speaking on the red carpet at the movie’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Kurt said he had realised a dream by working with Star Wars actor Terence.

“With any group or crew of guys who have made theft their life, those guys they can trust are who they run with and there are very few of them. My scenes with Terence Stamp were a great opportunity to work with someone who has done some stuff I’ve always loved. He was just the right guy and I was really thrilled to be able to work with him.

“No matter what business you’re in, trust is really big, but when you’re in the business of theft it’s really big and when it doesn’t work out it’s not good.”

Kurt, who is most famous for his role in sci-fi thriller The Thing, said he looks for the fun in projects.

“When you have the opportunity to spend as much time in movies as I have, you look at things and think what do I want to do? When I read this script I thought if the director puts the right people together it would be great.

“It fits the art-heist movie and I thought it was a great opportunity to have a blast and for people watching it to have a good time.”

Johansson: My high maintenance role

Scarlett Johansson had to go through a rigorous grooming routine for her role in Don Jon

Scarlett Johansson has revealed that keeping up appearances was the most challenging aspect of her Don Jon role.

The Bafta-winning actress, who stars in Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s comedy alongside Julianne Moore, admitted staying as preened as Barbara Sugarman wasn’t easy, as the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“It takes a lot of maintenance to look that good, you know,” she said.

“A lot of self-tanner, get the nails filled (with acrylic), got to make sure the (curly) girl’s blown out. It’s a lot of time in the hair and make-up department. The biggest challenge was trying to type on my phone with those acrylic nails, because it was excruciating. I couldn’t do anything when I had them on, and then when they were off, I still couldn’t do anything. It was the worst.”

The 28-year-old, who wore a black YSL dress, added: “It was great to put on that look every day, it was like, ‘It’s Barbara!’ I come in in sweatpants looking like somebody punched me in the face and then, I magically appear out of the hair and make-up trailer and look like Barbara Sugarman.”

Don Jon marks the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who previously directed short films. The 32-year-old also stars as a modern-day Don Juan, who decides to give up his pornography addiction and find a more fulfilling sex life.

“I’ve heard a lot of people say, ‘Why can’t my life be like that movie you were in?’ or ‘Why can’t I find somebody like you in that movie?’ That’s really startling,” he said.

“That’s why I thought a story about a man who watches too much pornography and a woman who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies would equate the two. Sometimes they give equally unrealistic expectations,” added the Looper star.

Wilde: Third Person is so personal

Olivia Wilde stars in Third Person

Olivia Wilde has revealed that Liam Neeson was a “wonderful” screen partner in Paul Haggis‘ drama Third Person.

The Rush star, who had to film love scenes with the Irish actor in the movie, admitted all her scenes were with Liam at the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“He was wonderful,” she gushed of her co-star.

The romantic drama tells the stories of three intertwined relationships – starring Olivia and Liam in Paris, James Franco and Mila Kunis in New York, and Adrien Brody and Moran Atias in Rome.

Olivia, who brightened up the red carpet in a yellow Valentino dress and Christian Louboutin heels, explained: “The script has so much depth. It’s very personal to Paul and I thought it was very well-written. I think what you learn from it is we are all existing in such different worlds, but there is a universal truth.

“And that is, we are all seeking human connection and we find worth in love – we really define our self-worth through the love of another human being. Alone, we don’t really mean anything.”

Adrien added: “That’s the tragic underlying aspect of this film that is so beautiful. We can all relate to the message that love is complicated and takes a lot to see through.”

Director Paul said the film will make viewers think.

“People are going to either love it or hate it, like Crash. A lot of people want their movies to be easily understood, underlined and in bold. I want people to talk about this movie afterwards. As an industry, we need to respect the audience more. I like films that make you think,” he told Variety.
