Leto: Film weight loss a great tool

Jared Leto said losing weight was ‘a tool’ for an actor

Jared Leto has admitted that losing lots of weight for movie roles is “a crazy thing to do”.

The actor has previously gained and lost weight for parts in films like Requiem For A Dream and Chapter 27 and most recently shed more than 30 pounds to play a drug-addicted transsexual in Dallas Buyers Club.

“It’s a tool. That’s it,” he said of the weight loss. “It’s a crazy thing to do and incredibly stupid and dangerous.

“But it’s a great tool because it changes how you walk, how you talk, how you sit, how you breathe, how you eat, how you laugh, how people treat you. It creates a sense of fragility.”

The film, which stars Matthew McConaughey as an HIV positive man who smuggles medication into the US in the 80s, is garnering plenty of awards buzz and received a standing ovation when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

But Jared, who has spent the last five years out of the acting game while he concentrated on his band 30 Seconds To Mars, admitted he has not yet watched it. During the premiere he went back to his hotel to work on a music video.

“Based on the past 48 hours of the most effusive praise I’ve ever gotten, the film can never live up to any expectation that I would have for it,” he said. “I’ll give it a few decades.”

The 41-year-old star was drawn to the role of Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club as soon as he read the script.

When he met with the director Jean-Marc Vallee via Skype, he was already getting into character.

“I used it as a test for myself,” Jared said. “I got some lipstick. We said hello and then I reached over and grabbed the lipstick and I proceeded to put it on. He was kind of like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ I took off my jacket and I had a little pink sweater on.”

Jackman: Prisoners sparks questions

Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal loved working together on Prisoners

Hugh Jackman has revealed he expects new movie Prisoners to make audiences question what lengths they would go to if their children went missing.

In the film Hugh, 44, plays the father of a six-year-old girl who goes missing and he locks horns with the detective working on the case, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, as he does everything he can to find his daughter.

The Wolverine actor and a father-of-two, said: “The first thing and main thing [audiences will think] is what would I do in that situation? It really does ask that question of everyone who sees it – how far would I go?”

Asked how far he felt he would go to protect his own children, Hugh said: “I’d go a long way, I don’t know if I’d go as far as my character, but I’d go a long way.”

Co-star Jake talked about how much he had enjoyed working with Hugh on Prisoners.

He said: “He’s a very honest, open guy and he’s so up for making a connection in scenes and in life and going to places that I think are really vulnerable.

“That’s totally witnessed in his performance in this movie which I think is beautiful. That’s why we bonded, because he’s a great dude.”

Prisoners is due to be released in cinemas on September 27.

James Corden: Do I sing? No Chance!

James Corden didn’t sing in the Paul Potts movie

James Corden has confessed all his vocals are dubbed in new movie One Chance about Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts.

The Gavin And Stacey star was at the Toronto Film Festival for the world premiere of the film, where he was joined by Taylor Swift, who composed a song for the movie, Alexandra Roach, who plays his on-screen wife, and Paul Potts himself.

Despite being able to sing himself – James is about to begin filming Hollywood musical Into The Woods – the comedian admits his opera isn’t up to scratch – so Paul’s own voice was dubbed over him into the film.

James revealed: “It was very, very straightforward, I would pretend to be singing opera, and then Paul would go into the studio and loop to my mouth. I hope I haven’t given it away too much, but that’s basically what happened.”

The actor also admitted he found it less pressure to play Paul because the film ends at the minute he walks into his first Britain’s Got Talent audition, when the nation all came to know and love him.

Taylor revealed she signed up to the project because she was so moved by the story of the mobile phone shop worker from Wales who shocked everyone with his amazing voice.

She said: “It’s amazing to be a part of this project. It’s a movie that really moved me in a way that I haven’t been moved in a long time, and to have just a small part in telling the story… I wrote the end-credit song so it’s the last thing you see of the story and I’m really, really honoured.”

The Iron Lady star Alexandra recalled watching Paul Potts win Britain’s Got Talent back in 2007.

She revealed: “I was in hospital at the time and I remember me and three old ladies gathered around the communal television in our ward, and we watched him sing.

“And because he was from Swansea and I was in a South Wales hospital then we were all crying and weeping and really rooting for him. And it’s so bizarre now to think that I’m sharing a red carpet with him and I’m playing his wife! It’s mad!”

Felton: One Direction’s a force

Tom Felton

Tom Felton accepts Niall Horan’s request to depict him in a fictional movie about One Direction.

The 25-year-old Harry Potter actor is rooting for the British boy band and he is happy about their success.

Last month group member Niall Horan told Yahoo! that he would love to see Tom depict him in a fictional movie version of One Direction’s story, and the thespian is excited about the prospect.

“I heard this. I read this. Niall is one of the wonderful members of One Direction,” Tom told MTV News at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“They are awesome. They are a dominating force.”

Tom is willing to undergo a dramatic transformation to potentially portray Niall, saying he would do “whatever” to look like the singer.

Although no new One Direction feature film is lined up just yet, Tom feels honoured Niall thinks he’d do a better job playing the undeveloped role than other respected Hollywood actors.

“Oddly… what’s really sweet is the rest of them have said like Tom Cruise, Leonardo [DiCaprio] and then Niall said Tom Felton. He’s blonde, yeah. I could dye it, whatever,” he said. “It’s very flattering and I’m a big Directioner.”

One Direction recently released their concert tour documentary entitled This Is Us.

The Morgan Spurlock film, starring boy band members Niall, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne, has earned $23.9 million domestically and $49.9 million internationally since it hit cinemas last month.

Simon Cowell, who signed the band to his record label, claims it is highly likely they will film a sequel.

“Yeah, for sure. We’d love to do another movie with them,” Simon told MTV last week. “But they’ve got this massive tour next year, so we’ve got to work into their schedule, hopefully.”

One Direction’s Take Me Home tour ends in October and they will hit the road again for their Where We Are concert series in April 2014.
