Warner Bros delays Harry Potter video game until 2022

Warner Bros Entertainment Inc pushed back the release of Hogwarts Legacy, the hotly anticipated video game set in the Harry Potter universe, until 2022. The game had originally been planned to debut this fall.

Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Utah-based Avalanche Software, is a prequel to the iconic fantasy book series by J.K. Rowling. Set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the 1800s, the game will allow players to explore an open world and cast magical spells. Some of its creators said last year they were rattled by Rowling’s transphobic comments, Bloomberg reported.

“Creating the best possible experience for all the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs,” the developers said on Twitter.

Hogwarts Legacy is likely just the first of many games to be delayed this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has hampered production pipelines for many studios. Although the video game industry has seen a sales boom as people look for escapes while trapped in their homes, productivity has been more difficult.

Rupert Grint on the Harry Potter TV series: Would be weird if show was a continuation thing

English actor Rupert Grint, best known for playing the role of Ron Weasely in the Harry Potter film franchise, has opened up about the TV show that is reportedly in development at HBO Max.

Grint said he feels quite protective of Ron and would find it weird if the show, that The Hollywood Reporter said is in the works, continued the story of Harry, Ron and Hermione.

He said while speaking to Variety, “It’ll be weird if it was a continuation kind of thing. I weirdly feel quite protective of that character. Even when I saw the stage shows, it was a very strange experience. … If it’s like a different group of friends, I guess it would be interesting.”

Grint appeared in every Harry Potter movie.

Apart from Harry Potter, he is also known for films like Cross of Honour, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, Moonwalkers among others.

Rupert Grint has also been a part of TV shows such as Snatch, BBC’s The ABC Murders and most recently Apple TV+’s psychological horror series called Servant.

‘Harry Potter’ actor Evanna Lynch announces memoir

Actor Evanna Lynch, best known for portraying the role of Luna Lovegood in the “Harry Potter” film series, is coming out with a memoir on September 14.

The 29-year-old actor-activist took to Instagram to share the announcement on Sunday.

Lynch said she had been meaning to write a book for quite some time and the year gone by allowed her the “silence and stillness to unravel the story” she wanted to tell.

Published by Headline Books, the memoir chronicles her struggle with an eating disorder, recovery and commitment to her dreams.

“In one way, this book is a memoir about my struggle with an eating disorder. However, it’s not really a book about thinness and eating; it’s about rebuilding yourself after, literally recovering yourself.

“At its essence, it’s about the ongoing negotiation between the voices of our fears and our creativity and all the crazy, interesting, wild things that happen when you keep committing to your dreams,” Lynch wrote in the caption.

The Irish actor also said she is grateful to her team who empowered her to share “my light and darkness alike in this story”.

The cover and title of the book are still in development, she added.

J.K. Rowling blew fans’ minds when she revealed the true origin of her bestselling “Harry Potter” book series.

The 54-year-old author responded to a user on Twitter who asked if The Elephant Cafe in Edinburgh, Scotland was actually where she came up with the idea for the magical fantasy story.

“I was thinking of putting a section on my website about all the alleged inspirations and birthplaces of Potter. I’d been writing Potter for several years before I ever set foot in this cafe, so it’s not the birthplace, but I *did* write in there so we’ll let them off!” Rowling explained.

She went further into detail about the “spot where I put pen to paper for the first time.”

“This is the true birthplace of Harry Potter, if you define ‘birthplace’ as the spot where I put pen to paper for the first time.’ I was renting a room in a flat over what was then a sports shop. The first bricks of Hogwarts were laid in a flat in Clapham Junction,” she confirmed.

Then Rowling explained writing and coming up with the idea were two different things.

“*If you define the birthplace of Harry Potter as the moment when I had the initial idea, then it was a Manchester-London train. But I’m perennially amused by the idea that Hogwarts was directly inspired by beautiful places I saw or visited because it’s so far from the truth,” she wrote.

Rowling also revealed where she came up with the idea of Quidditch — the sports game in the series where competing players fly around on broomsticks.

“This building is in Manchester and used to be the Bourneville Hotel (Pretty sure it’s this building. It might be the one along). Anyway, I spent a single night there in 1991, and when I left next morning, I’d invented Quidditch.”

Rowling continued, “I sometimes hear Hogwarts was based on one or other of Edinburgh’s schools, but that’s 100% false, too. Hogwarts was created long before I clapped eyes on any of them! I did finish Hallows in the Balmoral [hotel], though, I can’t lie, I’d rate it a smidge higher than the Bournville.”

The “Harry Potter” book series has gone on to sell more than 500 million copies worldwide. It was adapted into a major motion picture franchise, multiple amusement parks around the globe, and a spinoff play on Broadway.

In 2017, Forbes estimated Rowling, who was a single mother who lived on government assistance when she began writing “Harry Potter,” has a net worth of over $650 million.

Thai protestors held a Harry Potter-themed rally criticizing the monarchy

  • Demonstrators in Thailand used a Harry Potter-themed rally to protest against “lese majeste” laws, which bans criticism of the royal family and means any defamatory comments can lead to 15 years in prison.
  • Channel News Asia correspondent Saksith Saiyasombut tweeted that an organizer of the demonstration told him: “Bringing democracy to Thailand shouldn’t be wizardry.”
  • Lawyer Anon Nampa told Reuters: “Talking about this is not an act to topple the monarchy, but to allow the monarchy to exist in Thai society in the right way and legitimately under a democratic and a constitutional monarchy.”

Demonstraters in Thailand protested against defamation laws regarding the Thai monarchy on Monday at a Harry Potter-themed rally.

Some dressed as Hogwarts students and wore Gryffindor and Slytherin-themed scarves and ties. All wore face masks.

Speakers at the anti-government rally, held at Bangkok’s Democracy Monument, have demanded changes to the Thai royal family, and want King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s powers to be softened.

Defamation against the royal family is punishable by up to 15 years in prison due to their “lese majeste” laws. In 2017 a 34-year-old man was sentenced to 35 years in prison for insulting the monarchy on Facebook.

As reported by Reuters, police said that they would investigate any suspected offences, but they did not stop speakers or protestors themselves despite the defamation laws.

Protestors carried signs reading “trans witches are witches” and “trans wizards are wizards,” and said they were: “Casting the Patronus Charm to Protect Democracy.” They also dressed a straw-man as Voldemort.

The rally-goers also held wooden sticks in the air, as well as phones with their lights on, replicating what the staff and teachers of Hogwarts did after Dumbledore was killed in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

The protestors themed their rally as “Harry Potter vs You-Know-Who/He-Who-Must-Not Be Named,” with an organizer of the demonstration telling Channel News Asia correspondent Saksith Saiyasombut: “Bringing democracy to Thailand shouldn’t be wizardry.”

Reporter and producer Ryn Jirenuwat wrote that a leader of the protest said: “Someone in power will probably ban Harry Potter novels in Thailand by now.

“Someone in the background said ‘That’s fine. J.K Rowling is a homophobe.'”

Students from Mahanakorn and Kaset universities requested the government pay attention to their protests, and urged them to reform the “lese majeste” laws that outright ban any criticism of the monarchy.

According to Reuters, Lawyer Anon Nampa told the group of approximately 200 demonstrators: “Talking about this is not an act to topple the monarchy, but to allow the monarchy to exist in Thai society in the right way and legitimately under a democratic and a constitutional monarchy.”

Ratchada Thanadirek, a deputy government spokeswoman, said that it was the police force’s choice on whether or not to act against the ralliers. According to Al Jazeera, Thanadirek said: “The government wants the young protesters to observe the laws so that they can continue to exercise their rights to make their demands and the country can stay peaceful.”

Blind girl’s reaction to getting Harry Potter book series in braille is priceless

A blind girl had the most magical Christmas after receiving a special set of books.

A fan of the Harry Potter books, 7-year-old Emrie was delighted to receive the full series in braille for Christmas.

Her initial reaction when first opening the box of books was, “And they’re braille books.”

But her tone turned to utter excitement as she ran her finger across the cover of the book revealing it was a copy of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

“Oh my God. I have my own braille copy. Now I can read it,” she said.

Emrie started reading the Harry Potter books with her dad at night but recently stopped because she wanted to read them for herself, according to News.com.au.

“They would relive the magic for days as Emrie never forgot a single detail of the wonderful world she heard her daddy read about,” her aunt Kateyn Suter told the news outlet. “They have recently stopped reading them because Emrie wants to read them herself, she wants to put her finger to the paper and fly through Hogwarts too.
