An article on contactmusic.com displayed  the shifting landscape of the movie market in 6 words, movies give way to tv shows. The top dvd seller for the week wasn’t the latest Blockbuster to come to dvd  but ABC’s Lost The Complete Sixth Season.

Although  there have been some Blockbuster surprises, Inception comes to mind, much of the material that has come from Hollywood lately has been pretty stale, reworked plots.

There has been a pretty solid move from even A level actors to be willing to work in TV as there has never been before. In the past it was always the stomping grounds of B level actors looking for a boost in their acting career, but it has now become its own  career path for a professional  actor.

As theater ticket sales fall  , rental stores fail  , and pirating decimating the last bastion of online dvd sales, it appears that  TV is about the only place for actors to go in the future. The one bright sector of the industry is sales of discount dvds, but this low profit sector doesn’t drive much industry.

When the history of Hollywood is written, it may be that the aptly named Titanic was the peak of its influence and glory in Post Cold War American society. While the film itself cost tens of millions to make, it raked in 10 times or more in the theater alone, and went on to continue its path of through dvd sales and rentals. It is still asking and getting near original purchase price, and having no problem staying off the discount dvds list.

Such a behemoth would never be considered in this current ambiance, and with good reason, it wouldn’t make much profit.

But even with such a shift in the media market, essentially all that is changing is the format that a plot line is delivered. The movie format is more or less 80-200 minutes long, uninteruped plot line, while the “TV” format is between 30-60 minutes of interupted plot line put into a serial form that together form seasons. Of course even with all my talk of the “death of Hollywood” many TV programs are created in Hollywood as well.

So what’s changing in the world of dvds? How people purchase  them, or more to the point virtually only buy discount dvds online, and how many series you have to buy before you finally get to the end of the story  .

Burlesque costumes have always been popular and the swathe of new films and television shows that feature this sultry form of striptease will only serve to grow its status.

First Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor and now Burlesque featuring Christina Aguilera and Cher, have helped to advertise the seductive burlesque look with the general public.

Burlesque fancy dress costumes are popular with both people that are learning to perform themselves in the numerous classes which are now commonplace, and with those people seeking to re-create exactly the same flamboyant, colourful look at a celebration or function.

A number of different costumes and accessories exist that can help you style yourself as a burlesque beauty, whether you’re going to be mastering the dance routines, heading on a hen night or just for a fancy dress costume event.

We’ll take a look at a couple of different fancy dress costume options to help present you with a picture of a number of the garments you might choose from if you want to go burlesque for an evening.

The Fever Busty Burlesque outfit entails a red and black bodice, black skirt with red bow detail and a headband with stylized top hat. The costume has a similar glamorous, period visual appeal as the dancers from the movie, Moulin Rouge.

Add some long gloves and thigh high stockings with high heeled shoes to round this slinky look off. Nicole, eat your heart out!

The Can Can Girl fancy dress outfit is a 5 piece outfit which has a brief blue and black frilled skirt, a matching figure hugging bodice, a matching headpiece with blue feather, garters and finally a lovely black choker.

Add some stockings to this and you’ve an extremely pleasing look which is certain to grab attention wherever you wear it.

The last fancy dress costume we’ll contemplate is the Fever Lady Elegance costume. This light blue fancy dress costume has a striped design on the corset style top which continues on the layered skirt. The skirt also has bow detailing to add an further layer of interest. It really is an extremely straightforward fancy dress outfit to wear, but creates the burlesque look and feel, perfectly.

These are only a number of examples of the costumes that you could pick up with a burlesque look to them.

In case you have items in your own wardrobe that happen to be suitable to make your burlesque personality then you could add some cost-effective, effective accessories to improve the effect of the fancy dress outfit.

Stockings, garters, feathers and gloves will all add just a little more burlesque glamour to your costume and can be picked up for very reasonable prices.

OK, we started something years ago…didn’t hear people say they were grindin’ and on the grind back when we came out, but now, it seems that ‘grinding’ has entered common lingo.  But the idea of ‘grinding’ is an important one to anyone trying to get put on in the music business – and many other businesses besides.  It simply means to work hard, that is it.

Let’s say that you sell cars for a living, what will you do to sell more cars than anyone else – would you go out door to door to get your consumers, or would you simply sit at your desk and wiat for them to come – if it is the latter, then you are not considered to be ‘grinding,’ and therefore likely have no recipe.  Have you looked at publicity options? Are you trying to get media coverage? Are you sending your demo and electronic press kit to labels? What is your recipe for ‘The Grind,’ really?

It is no easy task being the best at something, and to outshine your competition, you have to offer something that others do not, and staying focused, and grinding is the obvious objective.  You need to stand out from the thousands of others, but you also need to keep working through the knock-backs and upsets. if you give up you will never make it – and that is the theory of ‘the grind.’ Just to keep going. To keep plugging away, writing music, promoting yourself, distributing your EPK even when nothing seems to be working for you. You need to keep motivated and have a plan of action – a recipe for success, So, tonight, sit and write what your recipe will be…your blueprint, and follow it until it comes to fruition…simple as that…

A virtual set is a background image or animation of a real or computer generated scene that is displayed behind person who has been filmed on a green or blue screen.  By combining the two layers, the video editor makes it seem as if the person was physically in the scene displayed in the background.  Over the years, the Virtual Set has grown in popularity and is being used widely in TV, movies, newscasts and talk shows.  Some of your favorite news shows, talk shows and movies probably use virtual sets and stages and you never even notice it.

There are many benefits of using a virtual set background over a true physical set.  For one, the cost of a virtual set is much less than what it costs to create a physical set on a stage.  For instance, a blue screen kit can be purchased for under 100 dollars and a royalty free virtual studio can easily be used to create an impressive scene behind your onscreen talent. If you need a custom designed news background , there are also companies that specialize in  this as well.  Also, a virtual set allows you to change the background regularly and not be locked down to a physical set that is cumbersome and expensive to update.  A virtual studio also allows for a quick editing turnaround times since the video production variables are limited to lighting the talent and the green screen backdrop.   A virtual set can even be captured live to tape if you have the right hardware and software to take out the green screen in your shot in real time and replace it with the virtual studio (similar to the way a weatherman works with weather animations ).

Another added benefit of virtual studio technology is that it is nearly universally compatible with any non-linear editing system on the market today. As long as your editor of choice allows for chromo or color keying (removal of a certain color from a video file, usually green or blue), you have the ability to use a virtual background.  Some full featured editors with this capability are Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier, Avid, Pinnacle and many others.

So, whether you are wanting to save time, money or just create a more polished production, virtual sets may be a great option for your next video production.   There are truly some amazing tools out there that  allow you to create amazing video productions on a budget.
