I have someone in my immediate family who is learning to be a filmmaker. My 20 year old boy’s lifelong wish is to make films. He has interest and dedication as well as a lot of innate talent. Regrettably, he is dyslexic and has never went to a traditional school, and the idea of having to attend a film school is making him anxious. However,, he is too fervent to give up thus he discovered another means of learning.

So he did what anyone with a desire ought to do in the first place: he took responsibility for his own dream, and became, in a sense, his own teacher.

When he was on 2nd grade my boy started homeschooling and with the discovery of his dyslexia we need to use alternative methods of teaching for him. We need to convert his home school into anything more or less similar to a film school when he decided to study in order to become a filmmaker. We made a high quality camera and PC an outlay We turned movies into classes and read many books on moviemaking and storytelling aloud and we also talked about ideas for a film. As he studied movies and books about films, my son was astonished at how many of his favorite directors had never been to (or completed) film school – people like Christopher Nolan, Robert Rodriguez, and even Stephen Spielberg. If they could do it, he supposed, he can do it.

But perhaps the most significant part of his education in studying to be a filmmaker was actually in making two short films. He used the tales in his mind and wrote a script. He storyboarded his screenplay and planned the shot list, just like the textbooks had told him to do. Friends and family members were recruited to be part of the cast and crew, he even held a casting call at a modeling school located in our neighborhood. He visited places to look for shooting locations and acquired the necessary papers in order to be able to film there. He experienced the harsh reality of making a film when he made his first short film. But by the second short movie, he understood a lot more about what he was performing. He anticipated the unexpected (as much as possible), and took things in stride, thinking more on his toes and making changes on the fly when required. On the location, he acted like a professional.

Today, my son’s second short movie is entered in contest in film festivals around the nation, and is getting seen by people in the industry. He is writing the script for his first full-length film, and plans to use his short film as a “calling card” of sorts, to show what he can do and secure financial backing for the full-length movie when the script is complete. This is my boy’s ongoing journey of studying to be a filmmaker.

My dad is awesome .  He is definitely one of the best men I know.  As a child, I tended to look to him for advice and friendship .  My mom and I are much nearer now than we were when I was a child, because I was I thought my dad was the best .  Anyway, it was his birthday last weekend and he turned 62 year old!  Can you believe it?!  I can hardly   believe that my parents are in their sixties now because they both act and look so young.  Everyone who knows them would agree with me too.  I’m not just being completing, it’s the truth!

My dad is earining a doctorate degree in education , so he was working on a project for that on most of his birthday .  He didn’t get home until approximately 8pm, after we had already eaten his birthday dinner lol.  He had told us to go onward and eat, so it was fine .  As soon as he entered the door we ushered him straight to the living room to open up his presents.  My dad doesn’t like cake, so we gave him birthday brownies instead .

Anyway , the gifts we got him this year were cool.  He really loved them.  I got a High Sierra bag that he’s been wanting forever, my brother got him some of these with “Dr.” and his name on them, and my sister sent him one of those coupon wallets (my dad is a huge bargain shopper).  We also got him some books he’s been wanting, and my mom got him some apparel and a complete set of Ally McBeal dvd’s.  He’s so lucky his birthday is so close to Father’s Day because we get to celebrate him again in a month.  Some people would consider that to be unlucky because it means that you might get less presents, but that’s not the case with my family.  We love Dad!

Well, what can I say, those clever chaps at Pixar have done it again!

Following the incredible  success of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, some may have questioned the wisdom of a third film being made. Our concerns were unfounded.

Cinematically brilliant, exciting, funny and poignant, Toy Story 3 excels in all aspects and does not disappoint in any way.

We meet once again our old friends Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Ham the pig, Jessie,Slinky Dog and Mr Potato Head, all heading for their final adventure. We also encounter some new characters including Barbie and Ken and ‘Big Baby’.

The story in brief:

Andy is getting ready to go to college and after sorting  through his effects,  decides to take Woody (our hero) with him as a memento of his childhood.   His other well loved toys, he intends to keep and puts them in a bag, ready to be stored in the attic.  Sadly, an error  is made and they inadvertently get taken to The Sunnyside Daycare Centre.

At first, the toys are thrilled as they believe that they are to be played with once again by eager children. It soon becomes apparent that the toddlers at the centre are not as gentle as Andy and that the toys already at the centre  are not as friendly as first thought.

One particular character, Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear is down right sinister.

Thankfully, Woody had seen  where the toys had been  taken and devises a plan to help them escape.

Huge fun  all the way, but have a box of tissues to hand.

Well done Pixar people. While you sit celebrating at your office desks, a well deserved  slice of mutual admiration is in order, together  with a pat on the back for all.

Movie making is multi billion business. You have put in much into the creation of your film and if you are lucky you can have a double investment at the box office since the movie you produced was such a huge hit that the targeted audience watched it to their hearts’ desire. It’s not a wonder that the number of online film schools offering film making courses continue to grow each day.

However, lest anyone forgets, film-making is art at its most imaginative form and among the different aspects involved in movie-making it is cinematography that directors, screenwriters, and producers consider to be the most intriguing, most interesting, and most challenging to deliver. So you might want to find out more about this specific aspect of filmmaking which is also the hardest to learn among the film making courses that are offered by film academies. Well, continue in reading your article.

What is cinematography?

Cinematography is considered as the art of moving photography. It’s that aspect of the film when the cinematographer chooses what camera gauge to use and the lighting effects to have when filming scenes in the movie. This is that part in the movie-making process that will test the creativity and imagination of the people behind the scenes – from the director to the cameramen. In the film school, cinematography is known to be the most difficult to learn among the many film making courses.

So what truly are the aspects that are involved in cinematography?

The following are what are involved in a film-making process also known as cinematography:

Film Stock- The first step in film-making wherein the cinematographer chooses the film gauge, the film speed, what color sensitivity to use when images are recorded.

Filters – Whether its diffusion-filters or color-effects filters that the cinematographer is using, the goal remains the same, that is, that these instruments are used to enhance the mood or dramatic effect of a particular scene in the movie.

Lens- It’s the instrument that the cinematographer attaches to the camera to have a certain look, feel, or effect for a certain film. Being able to choose the correct lens to use in shooting a particular scene or scenes in the film can make or break the film.

Aspect Ratio and Framing – The ratio of an image’s width to its height is what makes up the image’s aspect ratio. This aspect in cinematography is important because different ratios have varying aesthetic effects.

Lighting – Lighting is important in cinematography because it is this aspect that is involved in exposing images onto the film. It’s this part too that when done well evokes the proper emotions that the director would love to get from the movie’s viewers.

Camera Movement- It’s that aspect of cinematography that enables the film’s audience to have the required viewpoint in understanding the film totally.

Now you already know what cinematography is all about. Do you like to learn from some film making courses? Everything is in the Internet.
