Johnny Depp was the surprise special guest at the 9th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute in L.A. last night (Aug 18).

The evening, which took place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, was in celebration of the life of the late Ramones guitarist and was organised by Ramone’s wife Linda.

The main attraction of the evening was a screening of 1990’s cult classic Cry-Baby, which was introduced by director John Waters. The film follows teen rebel ‘Cry-Baby’ Wade Walker (Depp) and his gang of ‘Drapes’ in 1950’s Baltimore. Following the screening, Depp took to the stage alongside co-stars Traci Lords, Joe Dallesandro, Ricki Lake and James Intveld for a QA, moderated by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.

Linda Ramone also spoke of the relevance of the event in relation to the legendary guitarist. “This event is something Johnny would have loved. He was such a collector – autographs, movie posters, baseball cards, you name it. Having these amazing autograph signings and screening cult films – this is what Johnny was all about,” she said. “His legacy was important to him, and it’s the most important thing to me to do this event in the honor of my husband.”

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese was also on hand to introduce the film, whilst a number of Ramone’s musical friends were also in attendance.

Earlier this year, Linda Ramone also revealed that she was in talks to turn The Ramones’ story into a film .

Although it’s yet to be decided whether the biopic will focus on the band’s rise to fame in the 70’s or Johnny Ramone’s biography Commando, Linda has stated that “I will do one no matter what”.

Collins humbled by Mortal hysteria

Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins and Robert Sheehan star in The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

Lily Collins has admitted the hype surrounding her new film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones is strange but also humbling.

The actress plays Clary, a teenage girl with special powers, in fantasy film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, which is based on the first book of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Lily and co-stars Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Sheehan have been shocked by the fans reaction as they’ve travelled around promoting the movie.

Lily said: “It’s got progressively more intense. The amount of people that showed up, the excitement. The first movie’s not even out yet, and already people are camping out, wearing the t-shirts, crying and fainting. It’s very strange.

“But it’s also the most special part in a way, to be one-on-one with the real fans. I was a fan before I was cast, so it feels really cool to connect with other people as a fan. It’s been mental, but it’s been really exciting as well.”

Robert added: “We had a lot of people camp out at the LA premiere, the night before, and Harold [Zwart], our director, went out and fed them hot soup as they were waiting, which was quite cool.”

The 24-year-old actress also revealed getting into character as confused teen Clary had helped her confront some of her own issues.

Lily said: “Clary is so confused and she’s going through this whole identity crisis thing, which you mainly go through in your teenage years, but you never really figure out.

“I think her whole journey is about her figuring out it’s OK to be confused, and be wrong and vulnerable and scared, it’s how you deal with those situations and finding the strengths in your weaknesses.

“And I learned from playing her in doing that myself. It encouraged me to look beneath certain emotions that I have and pinpoint how I can work through them.”

Paula chose to go topless in 2 Guns

Paula Patton stars alongside Denzel Washington in 2 Guns

Paula Patton has revealed it was her idea to go topless for her love scenes in 2 Guns – but she got husband Robin Thicke’s blessing first.

The Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol beauty stars opposite Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in the action comedy about a pair of undercover agents brought together to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions of dollars in the film.

Paula, who has been married to chart-topper Robin since 2005, plays Denzel’s character’s lover and admitted she hates it when people keep their underwear on for sex scenes as it’s unrealistic.

The 37-year-old actress revealed: “It actually was my idea and they didn’t really know I was going to do it.

“I kept thinking about this scene, and thinking ‘Gosh, these two have been lovers for a long time, they’ve just made love.’ It seemed odd and unnatural for her to put a shirt on.

“And one of my pet peeves is seeing people in bed with a bra on, I just don’t understand it.”

“So I actually called my husband and said, ‘I think that I shouldn’t wear anything on top for this scene’, and he said, ‘Go for it, it’s all about the art.’

“So I came to set and I said to Baltasar Kormakur [the director] and Denzel, ‘I’m not going to be wearing a top. It doesn’t seem natural.’ And Denzel was like, ‘Well I’m not going to wear a top then either!’ So that was it!”

Paula also revealed she would love to return to work on Mission: Impossible 5, but she’s not giving anything away.

She said: “I adore Tom [Cruise]. We just had a blast making that movie, so I would love to do it again, yes.”

:: 2 Guns opens in cinemas on Friday, August 16.

MasterChef judge ‘hit man in brawl’

Gregg Wallace with Anne-Marie Sterpini

MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace brawled with a man and punched him in the face for allegedly groping his girlfriend, it was reported.

The former greengrocer and rugby player was pictured battling with the man after he appeared at a £75-a-head evening with him at a hotel.

Wallace, 48, is reported to have punched the man several times because he apparently pinched his 27-year-old girlfriend Anne-Marie Sterpini’s bottom.

The fight broke out after the TV personality had hosted Dinner With Gregg Wallace at the Wood Norton Hotel in Evesham, Worcestershire.

The hotel’s website described Wallace as “the bald one who likes puddings” and promised guests a champagne reception followed by a five-course dinner.

But the scene turned ugly. A picture in The Sun showed white-shirted Wallace grappling with the man while another man tries to restrain him as other guests look on.

A source told the Daily Mail: “The vast majority of those present were very drunk. I’m pretty sure Gregg had enjoyed a few drinks too.

“In fact, his girlfriend was one of the only people there who seemed sober. Gregg took exception to this man who was supposed to have been touching his girlfriend up. A table was knocked over as they grappled.”

The newspaper reported that three-times married Wallace and the man later calmed down, apologised to each other and shared a whisky.

His spokesman told the Mail: “I can confirm Gregg was involved in a disagreement at an event last night. The situation was swiftly resolved.”

The alleged incident comes months after Wallace predicted that his career would end if fans knew that he had ”clumped” some of the people who were rude to him. He later retracted the comment. In March, he told the Radio Times: ”The only downside to my job is lack of privacy. I’m glad we became well-known in our 40s.

”We’re household names but not big movie stars. I’m a south-east London blue-collar boy, so sometimes people are rude, thinking I won’t react because I’m on television.

”My natural inclination is to clump them – and I have. If that was known I’d be arrested and it would end my career.”

He told the magazine: ”OK, I haven’t done it. But here’s a plea: could viewers stop sending me pictures of their dinner on Twitter – I get about 30 a day.”

Wallace added: ”And also photographs of their friends who are bald and have glasses, telling me they’re my double.”

Wallace separated from his third wife Heidi – a young teacher who had contacted him on Twitter to ask him a question about celery – last year after 18 months. He had been married twice previously and admitting cheating on his second wife, Denise – the mother of his two children – with other women.

In his autobiography, Life On A Plate, Peckham-born Wallace revealed how he was sexually abused by the husband of his childminder when he was a boy. His mother later left to live with a man who Wallace was to discover was his real father.

He has told how he has been seeing a therapist about several issues, including his marriage break-up, workaholism and being unhappy despite amassing a small fortune through his grocery business, restaurant and TV appearances.

Seyfried: Lovelace isn’t porn

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried insists her new movie Lovelace is about an abusive relationship, not a porn star.

The actress plays real-life adult movie star Linda Lovelace in the new drama Lovelace. The biopic follows Linda’s abusive relationship with her manager and husband Chuck Traynor, and the events surrounding her appearance in the cult ’70s film Deep Throat.

“This is not a movie about a porn star – it’s about a deeply twisted relationship. I fully believe Linda’s viewpoint and that’s of a woman who was physically abused,” Amanda told British magazine Grazia. “A lot of people don’t believe the story she had to tell. It’s strange. I keep getting asked, ‘What was it like to play this crazy porn star?’ But she’s not that woman to me at all. She was in this crazy, unhealthy, twisted relationship and, quite honestly, it’s the darkest place I’ve ever gone to with a role.”

Years after making Deep Throat, Linda claimed she had been forced into appearing in the porn film and had suffered at the hands of her physically abusive husband. Amanda was deeply affected while researching into the actress’ life story.

“It was the violence I found very hard to deal with. You’re talking about a woman who was forced to even ask to go to the bathroom. I found it very hard to watch Deep Throat and we only just skimmed the surface of it,” she explained. “Linda played a huge part in America’s sexual awakening. She opened up a lot of people to be comfortable with their bodies and sexuality, which is something we take for granted now. She wanted her story told. But she also needed the money.”

King surprised by Simpsons remark

Stephen King on the set of Under The Dome

Stephen King has said he was shocked to hear Under The Dome being compared to The Simpsons.

His 2009 novel has been adapted for TV with Steven Spielberg as executive producer.

The novel is set in a small New England town that is suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome.

Some viewers have pointed out comparisons to The Simpsons Movie, in which the fictional town of Springfield was ensconced in an invisible dome.

But the Carrie author said: “I was totally gobsmacked and blind-sided when people started to say, ‘Oh The Simpsons already did this’.

“I figured to myself, ‘I am so glad that I wrote my book beforehand, otherwise I would have been down’.

“I saw the previews of that movie and I can’t remember seeing a dome. So probably people are like, ‘Oh sure you didn’t!’.”

The crime writer said that he’s not precious about how his original material is used.

“You get ulcers. Besides, I’m a go-along guy. When I was a kid my mother used to say, ‘Stephen if you’d been a girl, you’d always be pregnant’, and there’s some truth to that.”

:: Under The Dome starts on Channel 5 on Monday, August 19.

Jackman denies $100m deal

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman has denied signing a $100 million contract for The Wolverine sequels.

The Wolverine actor has denied signing a $100 million contract to complete four more films starring the comic book superhero.

He insists he doesn’t go for large sum deals without considering what’s best for him and followers of the Marvel flicks.

“No it’s not true,” Jackman told Entertainment Weekly of the supposed agreement.

“I would never do that. I’ve never done that mainly because, for the fans and for me, each time I’ve gone around there’s been a really good reason to do it and I don’t know what that reason is from here.”

X-Men: Days of Future Past is due for release in the United States on May 23, 2014, and the Australian-born star will also appear in that.

He is currently devoting his attention to completing that movie in Montreal, Canada.

“I’m in the middle of making this and I just promoted the other and I’m really happy with the way The Wolverine came out,” he continued.

The Wolverine was released July 28 in America and has grossed $307 million worldwide.

Having now made five flicks as the clawed mutant, the 44-year-old actor has portrayed Wolverine/Logan longer and more often than any other actor.

However his current deal with Fox Studios is about to expire and Jackman insists it’s not a given that he’ll make another.

“I’m not sure. I wasn’t even sure after the first [stand-alone] film if I would do another,” he said earlier this year about a possible return. “I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.”

This year Jackman played Davis in Movie 43’s The Catch segment.

He has also completed the part of Keller Dover in Prisoners.

Griffith finds light in dark movie

Melanie Griffith stars in The Dark Tourist

Melanie Griffith has said she managed to find fun in her new movie The Dark Tourist, despite the gritty subject matter.

The film, which also stars Southland actor Michael Cudlitz, is a dark psychological thriller about a man obsessed with visiting the sites of murders committed by serial killers.

Dressed in a floor length black gown at the Hollywood premiere of the movie, Working Girl star Melanie said: “There really are people that go around and follow serial killers where they did their stuff, it’s the real deal.”

The 56-year-old, who is married to actor Antonio Banderas, said she managed to find fun on the serious film set.

“It was intense but it was great because everybody was really into it and loved what they were doing and it was fun.

“Even though a story is really wicked and dark it’s more fun when everybody is loving what they are doing.”

Melanie was joined on the red carpet by co-star Michael, who said that grief tourism is more common than people acknowledge.

“Every time you take a picture of a place or a building where something happened, that’s grief tourism. Every time you visit where 9/11 happened, Pearl Harbour, Graceland, where things happened, that’s it.”

He added: “As humans everyone has darkness in them and that is what makes life exciting. How do you tap into that and how do you keep it at bay?”

Winfrey: I don’t want a biopic

Oprah Winfrey doesn’t want a film made about her life

Oprah Winfrey has insisted a movie about her life would be “boring”.

The US chat show host, who has made her name talking to other people about their lives, admitted she wouldn’t want to see a film made about her own past.

“Oh no. I would not consider a movie about my life. My life is basically boring,” she told Deadline.

But Oprah said she may consider writing her autobiography, following Nelson Mandela‘s advice.

“I don’t want to name-drop here but Nelson Mandela did say to me that he thought I should do it one day. He said, ‘You should do it for your own record; you should get the record straight’,” she added.

The 59-year-old TV presenter and actress – who made her film debut in Steven Spielberg‘s The Colour Purple in 1985 – makes a return to the big screen in Lee Daniels‘ The Butler. Her last acting appearance on the big screen was 14 years ago in Beloved, an adaptation of Toni Morrison‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

She admitted her role as Gloria Gaines in The Butler was tougher than the one she played in The Colour Purple.

“There’s no comparison. That was almost 27 years ago… and at the time nobody knew who I was. It was easier to be on screen. Nobody was saying, ‘Gee, that’s Oprah’,” she said.

“This was harder this time for me, because I’ve worked 25 years and I am Oprah, and people see me as Oprah. So to do a movie and have people not see you as Oprah – that’s hard.”

Simon Pegg fulfils Goth goal

Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg loved dyeing his hair for his newest movie, as he was “too scared” to do it when he was younger.

The British funnyman co-wrote and stars in The World’s End – a comedy about a group of friends who reunite for a pub crawl and unwittingly becoming humankind’s only hope for survival.

Simon loved playing Gary King in the movie.

“It was my favourite character to play, not least because I got to dress like I did when I was 18,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

“I loved it. I got to dye my hair black, which I never did when I was a Goth. I crimped it and I put feathers in it, but I never pushed it that far, I think I was a bit too scared. This was wish fulfilment for me.”

The World’s End also stars Simon’s long-time collaborator Nick Frost and was directed by Edgar Wright.

The threesome decided on the new film’s title after becoming inspired by a North London pub.

“Me and Simon used to meet there to go to the movies because there was an Odeon cinema,” Edgar explained.

“Simon went on his first date with his wife there, and Nick Frost fell off the wagon after two years of not drinking at the World’s End. He broke up with a girl and went straight to the World’s End and got hammered.”

The trio have lovingly named the three films they have worked on together – also including Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead – the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.

Simon is proud of what they’ve achieved.

“All of those genres that we’ve taken on, the reason for them… is that they are Trojan Horses which we can smuggle in more human stories. Shaun of the Dead is about growing up, and Hot Fuzz is about friendship and about having to dumb down a little bit sometimes if you want to get something done. The World’s End is about male friendship and letting go and nostalgia and addiction,” he explained.

Edgar added: “Most American comedies are like Hershey bars, and we like to be like those gourmet dark chocolates with bits of sea salt in them. It’s chocolate-y and then you go, ‘Oh!’”
