“Anxious People” (2021)

Based on Fredrik Backman’s novel of the same name, “Anxious People” follows a bank robber who stumbles into holding a group of apartment rental hopefuls (lovable idiots) hostage in the middle of an open house. The situation intensifies as investigators from Stockholm and internal squabbles threaten the local police investigation. As the story unfolds, relationships are tested, and life-long friendships are made. “Anxious People” is available on Netflix.

“The Lost Daughter” (2021)

‘Harry Potter’ reunion: ending paid subtle tribute to Alan Rickman

Two crossed lines that form an ‘X’. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification.

  • The “Harry Potter” reunion special premiered Saturday, January 1 on HBO Max.
  • It reflects on the films’ legacy, and ends on one of Snape’s most iconic lines: “Always.”
  • The ending functions as a subtle tribute to Alan Rickman, who played Snape and died in 2016.

The “Harry Potter” reunion special’s final moment paid subtle tribute to Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in all eight of the franchise’s films and died in 2016.

The special’s final pre-credits moment is an exchange between Dumbledore and Snape that’s cut from the series’ eighth and final film. In the full sequence, Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) reveals to Snape (Alan Rickman) that Harry must die in order to defeat Voldemort. When he asks if Snape has come to care for Harry, Snape summons his patronus — a doe, the exact same as that of Harry’s mother Lily, revealing that he still loves her.

“After all this time?” Dumbledore asks.

“Always,” Snape replies.

It’s the final note of the “Return to Hogwarts” special, in which the series’ cast members reflect on their time working on the films. As one of Rickman’s final and most iconic lines in the “Harry Potter” film series, it also functions as a subtle tribute to the late actor, who died in 2016 of cancer at age 69.

In the wake of Rickman’s death, J.K. Rowling revealed that she had passed on one key piece of information to the actor early on in filming — the meaning of the word “always,” and in turn, Snape’s love of Lily.

In addition to the tribute, the special also features an in memoriam segment, highlighting actors like Richard Harris (Dumbledore in the series’ first two films), Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy), Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley), and Rickman who died prior to the reunion.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” is available to stream on HBO Max now.

Harry Potter helped me to heal from incest abuse

This story discusses childhood sexual assault. For help, contact RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline or learn more at Incest AWARE.

On New Year’s Day, I sat down to watch HBO Max’s “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.” In this two-hour special, J.K. Rowling, the author of the series, and the cast and crew of the films remember their decade together making the magic of the books come to life on screen. This year also marks the 20-year anniversary of The Boston Globe’s reporting on the child sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church.

As an abuse survivor who was raised Catholic, these two events are intricately related for me. I listened to Danielle Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and others reflect on becoming a family and recalled how the Harry Potter series helped me to create a fulfilling life after being betrayed by my family and the church as a survivor of incest abuse.

I found a part of myself the moment I met Harry Potter in the closet under the stairs at 4 Privet Drive. He was “The Boy Who Lived,” the only survivor of Voldemort. I was “The Girl Who Lived,” a baby who had half of her large colon removed at 6 months old and grand mal seizures until the age of 5. Who, beginning at age 2, suffered from intergenerational incest abuse under the bodies of three men in my family.

The Harry Potter series helped me to create a fulfilling life after being betrayed by my family and the church as a survivor of incest abuse.

Harry’s scar marked his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. Mine stretched in a straight line from my navel to left hip and hid within the neurological pathways of my mind and buried deep inside the muscles of my body. My being felt like it had suffered a Dementor’s Kiss—as if my soul had been sucked out, forcing me to live a half-life. As Harry’s body held a living part of Voldemort, I became my abusers’ Horcrux, an object that contained a part of his soul. My identity, behaviors and purpose were all intrinsically linked to serving or fighting the men who abused me.

Harry could not remember what happened the night his parents were murdered nor how he had earned his scar. Similarly, the memories of incest abuse were pulled from my memory and placed within my subconscious to be retrieved when I was ready to receive them. Harry left the Dursleys and built a new family system through friends, pieced together the story of his parents from the memories of their companions and risked everything to kill the monster that threatened to kill him and destroy his world.

In the last decade of my life, I walked away from my family when they demanded forgiveness of my perpetrators without the accountability necessary to ensure the next generation would be safe. I recovered the forgotten memories, continue to purge the internalized shame and am learning to manage the consequences of developmental trauma that cause Complex-P.T.S.D. My identity, my family and my purpose all shifted to stop serving my abuser and save the lost half-life within.

Like Harry, loyal friends, masterful mentors and surprising tools presented themselves to aid me in this perilous process. For him, it was the sword of Gryffindor, a flying broomstick or an invisibility cloak. The cleverness of Hermione Granger and the constancy of Ron Weasley accompanied Harry alongside the secret protections of Severus Snape, the hints of Albus Dumbledore and the devotion of Sirius Black.

Societal taboo around the topic of incest mirrors the wizarding world’s fear of Voldemort: It is the common social problem that still “shall not be named.”

For me, it was E.M.D.R. therapy to rewire my brain, acupuncture and herbs to soothe my body, ease and exercise to regenerate my being and Reiki to recover my sucked-out soul. A number of people joined in my fight to save my own life—friends who healed me of loneliness by listening to my litany of losses, the parents of other children who taught me how to re-parent myself and advocates who sought to kill the patriarchal violence that still resides in parts of our society.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was not just an escape from the lonely reality I lived; it was a metaphor, a Marauder’s Map, that showed me the way when a roadmap for healing didn’t yet exist for the recovery of incest abuse survivors. The story was my Patronus Charm—a magical spell that bound me to the belief that the power of friendship and the commitment to justice would help me to heal.

The incantation for the Patronus Charm is Expecto Patronum, which loosely translates from Latin to “I expect a guardian.” Family offers identity, belonging and security. Church offers a cosmology from chaos, a constant community and rites of ritual that provide meaning to the often complex human experience. Family and church are two contexts in which I expect to encounter guardians, not people who perpetrate crimes against children.

Today, the fullness of my chosen family, the power of healing and the rituals of advocacy fill me with an unimaginable litany of love. The type of magic once reserved to the world of fantasy is now very much real because the mischief of violence has been managed, the horcruxes destroyed and the root of evil dispelled from my personal life.

It doesn’t take magic wands or special spells to ensure the next generation of children are safe.

A central difference between Harry’s story and mine is that he was the only survivor of Voldemort. I am only one of many survivors of childhood sexual abuse, specifically incest. Just as Voldemort had his accomplices to secure his violent ends, some members of the Catholic hierarchy covered up for priests who preyed on children for their own pleasure by passing them from parish to parish.

Though I left the church, gratefully, I had guides to help me find spiritual fulfillment through the art of Ignatian contemplation. As I broke my spiritual dependency on the institution, I found consolation in colloquies with Christ. Like Harry’s parents, Jesus met me in my mind to help me during trying times. Nature became a composition of place to encounter the power of love face to face.

The indelible mark of violence still rests within my body and within so many institutions. Even after #MeToo went viral in 2017, sexual abuse in the home remains a neglected subject in public discourse. Societal taboo around the topic of incest mirrors the wizarding world’s fear of Voldemort: It is the common social problem that still “shall not be named.” The invisibility of this issue allows violence to hide in the shadows and pass on from one generation to the next. Together, we must pull our courage from our pockets and cry “Lumos!” to illuminate the violence and create systems of safety.

It doesn’t take magic wands or special spells to ensure the next generation of children are safe. It simply requires a community of friends working together with the shared conviction that belief and belonging are bound to love. That love is just. And, most important, that love is safe.

Fantastic Beasts 3 Trailer: Teaser Celebrates Harry Potter Franchise

Harry Potter fans across the world are waiting with anticipation for the release of the full trailer for Fantastic Beasts 3, which is due for release in 2022.

Ahead of the trailer release, a teaser trailer has been published with fans able to relive many of the highlights of Harry Potter’s story to date.

Watch Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer teaser

The teaser trailer features clips and a look across all of Harry Potter‘s success, from the original books and movies right through to theme parks and Broadway productions.

We see famous clips from the film series and even a very brief glimpse of Gellert Grindelwald, to build excitement ahead of the full trailer launch.

When will the Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer be released?

The full trailer will be released on Monday, December 13, 2021, to give us our first glimpse of what the movie will tell us.

We already know that Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore are in for some trouble as Gellert Grindelwald looks to take power, but scant details have been revealed about the plot to date.

Who will star in Fantastic Beasts 3?

The headline news is that Johnny Depp will not be returning as Grindelwald following his resignation from the role, though he had filmed one scene in character before that.

Mads Mikkelsen will take over the role, having starred in films such as Doctor Strange and Hannibal.

Returning cast include Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski and Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein.

When will Fantastic Beasts 3 be released?

Fantastic Beasts 3 will be released in the United Kingdom on April 8, 2022, with a US release date a week later, on April 15, 2022.

The film was originally set for release in November 2021, but the pandemic caused delays to filming which pushed back the release date.

Johnny Depp‘s resignation led to Warner Bros initially pushing the launch back even further, to July 2022, but they have since brought it forward to April 2022.

UK university puts content warning on Harry Potter book

A UK university reportedly put a content warning on a course reading list that features the first Harry Potter book and other young adult novels, saying the texts can lead to “difficult conversations about gender, race, sexuality, class and identity.”

The warning is related to the three books being studied in a literature course at the University of Chester, the Daily Mail reported.

The list of books the warning applies to includes J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” and Philip Pullman’s “Northern Lights.”

“Although we are studying a selection of Young Adult texts on this Module, the nature of the theories we apply to them can lead to some difficult conversations about gender, race, sexuality, class, and identity,” the warning said, according to the outlet.

The warning applied to the first Harry Potter book, among other texts.
Jonathan Hordle/Shutterstock

“These topics will be treated objectively, critically, and most crucially, with respect. If anyone has any issues with the content, please get in touch with the Module Leader to make them aware.”

The warning comes after Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, faced a wave of criticism after being accused of making transphobic comments.

Dr. Richard Leahy, the university lecturer in charge of the literature course, tweeted in March 2019 that “JK Rowling reveals that he is not the best mate of mine.” His Twitter accounts appears to have been deleted.

A university spokesperson described the warning as a “generic paragraph” and insisted it wasn’t “specific to the three texts.”

“Those studying literature should expect to encounter all the issues, challenges and complexity of humankind. As a University we promote rather than avoid discussion on these,” the spokesperson said.

“We do of course include a generic paragraph on our reading lists to draw attention to the opportunity for individual students to talk with tutors if anything is particularly difficult because of its personal relevance.

Author J.K. Rowling has been accused of making transphobic comments.

“Tutors know how to signpost students to specialist support which is occasionally needed but often the tutorial or seminar discussion is sufficient for a student to put an issue in context.”

Don’t Worry, Harry Potter Fans! Wizarding World Website Says Hogwarts Legacy Is Coming in 2022

Update: Well, here’s a much better source than Warner Bros Brazil: official Harry Potter website Wizarding World has updated with a new post on the year ahead, and it also says Hogwarts Legacy is coming this year. Obviously, this is still subject to change, but it’s slightly more positive news for the open world RPG adaptation.

Original Story: A headline that’s already apparated itself onto a number of major websites is Warner Bros Brazil’s confirmation of Hogwarts Legacy for 2022. The South American division is just regurgitating official information, of course, but some believe it could dispel previous rumours regarding the Harry Potter-themed RPG being in trouble.

Earlier this week, Sacred Symbols host Colin Moriarty reported that the “game isn’t coming out this year”. That’d be hugely disappointing, of course, as it was originally due in 2021 before spending the entire year shrouded in its invisibility cloak. Officially, developer Avalanche Software has promised updates imminently.

Ultimately, we’re just going to have to wait for official confirmation. Moriarty’s sources may or may not be sound, but Warner Bros Brazil is just sharing publicly available information, which will remain accurate until a more concrete announcement is made. So, yes, Hogwarts Legacy is currently slated to release in 2022 – until, of course, it isn’t.

Alongside the main collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts products, fans will be able to choose from a range of brand collaborations including Spirit Jerseys, Loungefly handbags and many other fan-favorite ranges including Pottery Barn Teen.

About Wizarding World

More than two decades ago, a young Harry Potter was whisked onto Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station, and readers everywhere were swept along with him into a magical universe, created by J.K. Rowling. In the years since, the seven Harry Potter bestsellers have inspired eight Blockbuster movies, an award-winning stage play, and, more recently, the start of the Fantastic Beasts five-film series. For today’s growing worldwide fan community, and for generations to come, the Wizarding World welcomes everyone to explore more of this magical universe — past, present and future. The Wizarding World also provides fans with an instant, trusted kite-mark of quality and authenticity.
