Carnival kicks off week of festivities fun

WHAT’S UP DOC?: A DeLorean will be among the ‘movie cars’ taking part in the carnival.

MILFORD HAVEN Carnival will be one for the film fans this Saturday (July 5), as Austin Powers, Audrey Hepburn and Lara Croft feature in an all-star Hollywood line-up.

Carnival organisers Milford Haven Round Table have pulled out all the stops for this year’s procession, which will include famous movie cars such as a DeLorean – as featured in ‘Back to the Future’ – a pink Cadillac, and a tank.

The parade will begin at Waterloo Square at 1pm, travelling down St Anne’s Road, Hamilton Terrace, Sandhurst Road and The Rath, before finishing up at Milford Haven Athletic FC grounds.

Local groups and businesses will battle it out for the £500 ‘best float’ prize, and music will be provided by the Milford Haven Town Band and Samba Doc.

In Pill Fields, younger audiences will be kept entertained by performers The Crazy Bears, face painting, circus demonstrations, local gymnastics displays and birds of prey.

There will also be stalls, photo opportunities with the stars and cars, a fairground, and a live stunt show.

Chairman Dan Davies said: “The Round Table look forward to this year’s carnival. We believe that once again it will be a fun-filled weekend for all the family which will be an alcohol-free zone.”

The carnival also kicks off Milford Haven Festivities Week , which sees events for all ages take place in the town.

Entry to the town museum will be free all day Saturday, and on Sunday an open fishing competition will be held – with booking at the Marina from noon.

Monday will be one for bingo fans, with eyes down at the Manchester Club at 2pm, and an open bingo competition at the Pill Social Centre at 7pm.

The town band will delight with a concert at the memorial gardens at 7pm on Tuesday (or at St Katharine and St Peter’s Church if wet), and a darts tournament at the Manchester Club and a fun night with Milford swimming squad at the Meads are on the cards for Wednesday.

Thursday sees more bingo at the Manchester Club, and a quiz night at the Pill in the evening.

Rounding off the week will be the Bowling Club’s festivities week cup final at 6pm on Friday, July 12.
