Channing Tatum says ad-libbing on 22 Jump Street felt like “recess”.

The actor reunites with funnyman Jonah Hill for the sequel to 2012 smash-hit comedy 21 Jump Street. This instalment sees the two baby-faced police officers head to college to go undercover.

I mean it was a lot [of ad-libbing],” Channing revealed to Access Hollywood.

But, truth be told, the directors and Jonah and Rodney [Rothman, from the screenplay team], theyre all great writers and they wrote a lot for the movie and then, all of a sudden, you get on set and do whats like, written and then you just have free-for-all time.

Its like recess in a way and you just go crazy.”

Channing, 34, added that not all freestyle scenes work and that ultimately directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller still hold the power.

Today the film will be released in Australia, with the UK following tomorrow and US cinemas catching up on June 10 at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Fans have eagerly been awaiting the sequel, but Channing admits he’s unsure whether making it into a trilogy would work.

I dont know, he mused. The easy answer is this it felt very natural to do the second one.

Someones gotta come up with a great idea for the third one… After high school you go to college and I dont know whats after college, so, you know, well see.

Channing also stars in dark drama Foxcatcher, which is out in November, and is preparing for roles in X-Men: Apocalypse and Gambit.
