After many years of non-stop ridiculing celebs, the Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of Southpark, of Southpark seem to have no regrets. . This season, however, it has been announced that Tom Cruise, Kanye West, and Oprah Winfrey will have their revenge on Southpark in an approaching milestone episode!
The satirical cartoon’s 200th episode, not surprisingly titled 200, sees the inhabitants of the Colorado town put through a class action lawsuit by the lengthy number of celebrities lampooned during the animation’s fourteen year history.
Whether these celebs are actually going to sue the creators of South Park is yet to be seen, but it is highly doubtful. Of course, considering the enormous range of celebs that have been parodied on South Park it is difficult to imagine any celebrity wouldn’t want to sue the show for every penny if they could.
However, there are two things which provide major obstacles to anyone thinking about it. The first is the United States constitution, specifically the first one which centres on freedom of speech. In addition, a disclaimer appears before every episode.
Tom Cruise memorably appeared in an episode entitled Trapped in the Closet in which the beliefs of Scientology were outlined. In reference to fans’ disappointment with the fourth Indiana Jones film, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were controversially portrayed raping Indiana Jones.
Phil Collins, Hillary Clinton, baseball Barry Bonds, and Oscar winner Russell Crowe will also be featured in the 200th episode.
Some commentators dislike South Park because they see the humour of the show as being basic and unintelligent . What they miss is the intelligent parodies that are present in addition to the sometimes crude humour. In addition, each episode usually comes to an end with the moral middle ground being explained. There are very few American T.V. shows that use satire with as much experience and impact as Southpark, and thus it should be embraced by the UK, the worldwide capital of satire!
