Tim McGraw Music Video is among country music’s strongest singers. He do not have the range or depth of an Vince Gill or simply a Toby Keith, but he is able to do such a great singer needs to do: deliver a song with sincerity and believability. That may seem like a low bar to clear, but it never ceases to amaze me the number of country artists trip over it presently.
McGraw provides a stellar track record in this area, but you’d never know it listening to “Felt Good On My Lips.” In fact, it would appear that the record itself has so little confidence in McGraw’s capability to deliver a song that it puts every modern recording barrier it can bring to mind between his vocal and the listener.
I do not need the technical studio recording vocabulary to accurately describe what’s being done to his voice here, so I’ll just say it looks like he’s singing right into a transistor radio that’s miles removed from in which the musicians are playing. His voice is indeed processed that it is hard to tell it’s even Tim McGraw until he lets loose a little during the chorus.
Is the song decent? We can’t really tell. We’ve never developed being able to appreciate a song for its own sake. The singer will have to deliver the products for me to appreciate it. The development sank this record before the song had any opportunity to win me over. The whole thing delivers the vibe of an long lost demo being spruced up for a posthumous cash-in.
