The film adaptation of Sucker Punch’s action adventure game will be written by Takashi Doscher, Deadline reports.
Doscher previously wrote and directed sci-fi romance Only, starring Freida Pinto and Leslie Odom Jr, thriller Still, starring Madeline Brewer, and the ESPN documentary A Fighting Chance.
Sucker Punch’s game follows Jin Sakai, a warrior fighting against Mongol invaders for the freedom of Tsushima in an adventure that draws on Japanese history and the traditions of samurai cinema.
Netflix has a new movie that is melting hearts and enjoying strong word of mouth as it continues to rise higher up the streamer’s most-watched list.
The film is called Along for the Ride, and it’s based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Sarah Dessen. The movie was written by and is the directorial debut of Sofia Alvarez. That name may be familiar to genre fans, as Alvarez also wrote Netflix hits To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and its 2020 sequel To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.
The romantic drama revolves around Auden (Emma Pasarow), a recent high-school graduate and insomniac, who plans to spend her summer visiting her father and his new wife in the small town of Colby Beach.
While there she meets Eli (Belmont Cameli), a fellow insomniac, and the night owls decide to explore the beachside town together. The pair soon bond as Eli introduces Auden to the fun, carefree teen life she never knew she wanted. And their deepening connection leads to romantic sparks flying.
Along for the Ride might on the surface sound like a schmaltzy teen flick full of cringe-worthy dialogue and overly dramatic character, but don’t be fooled by first impressions. The movie is surprisingly thoughtful and has received a far stronger critical reception than movies of this ilk tend to enjoy.
Over on Rotten Tomatoes (opens in new tab), Along for the Ride has scored a respectable 60%. Critics have praised it for its ability to capture the feeling of first love and its relatable message. Viewers appear to be more impressed with the film scoring a 74% audience score, which is fairly strong.
Along for the Ride is making a serious splash on Netflix. It’s currently ranked the No. 4 on the most-watched list of films in English. Plus, in its first 48 hours on Netflix, the film racked up almost 11 million viewing hours worldwide (per Top 10 Netflix (opens in new tab)). Right now we see it as No. 3 in the U.S. through the Netflix app.

Salem have been picked to close the new Scream movie.
Out now, co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin is seemingly a fan of the Will Gould venture, and plucked their song ‘Fall Out Of Love’ to feature on the end credits.
A re-recorded version was used, with Salem’s helter-skelter jet black punk rock augmented by Carlie Hanson’s vocal.
Initially appearing on their debut EP, ‘Fall Out Of Love’ now gains international traction as part of the horror franchise.
SALEM’s Will Gould commented: “It is such an honour to be involved with the Scream movie soundtrack. As big fans of the franchise it has been surreal to be asked to be a part of its legacy in some small way. We couldn’t ask to be featured on a more perfect soundtrack.”
Scream co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, added… “An intoxicating devil-my-care anthem, an us-against-the-world rallying cry, ‘Fall Out Of Love’ wears it’s sardonic heart on it’s blood-soaked sleeve as it gleefully burns down the very romantic notions it so successfully conjures up with fearless passion and reckless abandon. Equal parts optimistic and cynical, nostalgic and timeless, this bittersweet ode to undying devotion fights through the despair to find hope and ultimately much needed catharsis. I love this song so fucking much.”
A movie adaptation of Sony’s Gran Turismo series is reportedly in the very early stages of development.
That’s according to Deadline, which claims Sony is eyeing Neill Blomkamp, the director of films including District 9, Elysium and Chappie, to helm the movie.
However, Deadline claims the Gran Turismo project is actually a movie adaptation based on the long-running racing series, which is developed by Polyphony Digital.
The franchise, which launched for PSOne in 1997, has sold over 85 million copies to date. The most recent series entry, Gran Turismo 7, was released in March for PS4 and PS5.
It said the iconic action-adventure franchise was being adapted for TV by The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins.
January’s Uncharted movie was the first major PlayStation Productions project to be released. Starring Tom Holland, the film had a $120 million budget and grossed over $400 million at the global box office.
India of Vivekananda, Aurobindo’s dreams nearing realisation: Bhagwat
NEW DELHI: India of the dreams of Swami Vivekananda and Maharishi Aurobindo is nearing realisation, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has said, and insisted for that to happen the country must wield “power that is visible”. Addressing a gathering of saints and seers in Haridwar on Wednesday, Bhagwat hailed

CANNES, FRANCE: Kristen Stewart runs her hands through her peroxide blonde hair, looks to the ceiling and appears confused – in deep thought, perhaps – as she recalls the first David Cronenberg movie she ever watched. She admits she’s nervous.
“My heart is really going. Honestly, it’s pounding,” she says to a room full of journalists inside the Palais de Festival in Cannes. “It was Crash and I was probably far too young to watch it. I felt like I was going to get into trouble.”
Her new film Crimes Of The Future explores a time in the not-too-distant future where humans are learning to adapt to a synthetic environment and thus are using surgery to alter their biological makeup and produce new organs. The brilliant, cannot-keep-your-eyes-off-of-her Léa Seydoux stars as an avant-garde artist named Caprice who performs open surgery on her partner’s organs (the latter played by Viggo Mortensen) to an audience.

Stewart is in the role of Timlin, a hyper-enthusiastic underground investigator from the National Organ Registry who obsessively tracks the artist’s movements. To her, the duo are the key to the next phase of human evolution, and indeed the next faze of sensuality and sex. There’s many scenes where the characters, including Timlin, are turned on by the poking about and removal of someone’s internal organs. Yes, surgery is the new sex.
Here is a clip from the movie:
It’s obscure and gory and weird – Mortensen’s character, Tenser, literally sleeps in a womb-like bed suspended in the air – and Stewart is well aware that a Cronenberg film isn’t for everybody. if fact, at its premiere here in Cannes, a number of people walked out, even though it got a seven-minute standing ovation at the end.
“I know some people say [David Cronenberg’s] films are difficult to watch,” Stewart says, who is wearing a red tweed CHANEL jumpsuit. “Every single gaping, bleeding, pulsating image – every bruise in his movies – it makes my mouth open. Like I want to lean towards it, it never repulses me ever. Everything about what [David] does – and this could be dead wrong – but the way I feel it is through a really visceral desire. That’s the only we’re alive. It’s real pleasure sex. It’s so honest in the way that it allows you to zoom out on the world we live in, and that’s hard to do sometimes.”

“I spoke to [David] on the phone before we decided… or whatever, before he decided to put me in his movie, miraculously,” she continues, looking down nervously and getting her words muddled. “And I was like, ‘I have no idea what this movie is about but I’m so curious to be making it with you and figuring it out.”
“And I’m sure you know what it’s about,” she adds, gesturing to Cronenberg. “But all the actors spent every single day after work being like, ‘What are we doing?’”
The room erupts into laughter, with a collective understanding that most people at the premiere the evening before found this film a little strange. But strange doesn’t mean it was bad.
“But then I watched the movie last night and it’s so crystal clear to me; it’s so exposing. I love [David’s] movies.”

The legend director – who actually wrote this script “in 1998, 99” but failed to get it financed at the time – calls Crimes Of The Future a “meditation on human evolution.” “Specifically the ways in which we have had to take control of the process because we have created such powerful environments that did not exist previously,” he writes in a director’s statement to press.
“At this critical junction in human history, one wonders – can the human body evolve to solve problems we have created? Can the human body evolve a process to digest plastics and artificial materials not only as part of a solution to the climate crisis, but also, to grow, thrive, and survive?”
Some of this is well-worn territory for those who have been following Andrés’s career, though perhaps in a more digestible form than, say, his detail-rich book, “We Fed an Island.” Howard takes detours, for instance, to give credit to the chef’s mentor, Robert Egger of D.C. Central Kitchen, or to give screen time to favorite Andrés topics, such as migrant farmworkers, but without getting overtly political.
