2022 New Movie Release Dates: Full Schedule Of All The …

If you thought that Hollywood had a busy year in 2021, you would certainly be correct, but, you should still hear about the dizzying amount of exciting new 2022 movies coming to theaters, or on streaming, or even on both options. As per usual, there are plenty of Marvel movies to look forward to and even more DC movies, if you can believe it, and, of course, other traditional genres of the medium (including romantic comedies like Marry Me or sci-fi thrillers like the first of James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels) can be found.
The following is a one-stop location for all the movies coming out in 2022 (that we can confirm so far) and when and where to expect them. I am sure that I do not have to tell you that these release dates are subject to change, so be sure check back for shifts in the schedule. Enjoy!

CANDYMAN (in theaters) Even without anyone saying Candyman’s name to a mirror, a haunting teaser trailer with only shadow puppets, from last year, set the bar high for this remake, directed by Nia DaCosta (“Little Woods”) and co-written by, among others, Jordan Peele. Interestingly, it appears to retain the milieu of Chicago’s mostly defunct Cabrini-Green housing project, where much of the 1992 original took place. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Teyonah Parris star. Colman Domingo also appears.
HE’S ALL THAT (on Netflix) Mark Waters (“Mean Girls”) directed this gender-swapped remake of “She’s All That.” Addison Rae plays an influencer who gives a dork (Tanner Buchanan) an image makeover.
VACATION FRIENDS (on Hulu) A couple (Yvonne Orji and Lil Rel Howery) is mortified when some casual friends from a vacation (Meredith Hagner and John Cena) crash their wedding.

THE BIG SCARY “S” WORD (in theaters) Spoiler alert: The word is “socialism,” and Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are among the interviewees in this documentary about its history in the United States.
FAYA DAYI (in theaters) When the director Jessica Beshir’s experimental documentary, shot in Harar, Ethiopia, played at New Directors/New Films in the spring, Beatrice Loayza, writing in The Times, called it “dreamy and visually dazzling.” The film, she wrote, considers the toll that the economics of khat — a plant that is used as a drug — takes “on a rural community across generations.”

As if the pandemic and tumult of 2020 weren’t enough, last year also delayed a slew of hotly anticipated films, ranging from action Blockbusters such as “Black Widow” and “No Time to Die” to the Timothée Chalamet-led sci-fi epic “Dune,” which will now release both in theaters and on HBO Max in 2021.
With coronavirus vaccinations rolling out fast, shuttered theaters are reopening their doors, letting film lovers view previously delayed releases and new films. The year will also see the debuts of long-awaited sequels, such as “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” as well as documentaries, including “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain.”
On March 23, Disney announced an overhaul of its remaining slate of 2021 films. Despite some delays in expected release dates, “Black Widow” will still hit screens come summer. The latest Marvel entry, along with the live-action “Cruella,” will simultaneously release in theaters and on Disney Plus with Premier Access, which costs a $30 rental fee. For Broadway fans, June will bring Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “In the Heights,” featuring a predominantly Latinx cast, and Ben Platt’s “Dear Evan Hansen” will hit the big screen in September.

New movie releases 2021 | all the release dates and …
Cinemas have now been open again for the best part of a month throughout most of the UK – and if you’re planning some more trips to the pictures during the summer and beyond then you’re in luck, as there’s a wealth of exciting features on the way.
Several films that were originally intended to open in 2020 will finally make their way to the big screen in the near future, with Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, James Bond flick No Time to Die, Marvel’s Black Widow and Eternals and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake among the highlights.
And that’s not all – there’s also the ninth installment in the increasingly bonkers The Fast and Furious saga, a new film from Edgar Wright, Denis Villeneuve’s long-awaited adaptation of iconic sci-fi novel Dune and a sequel to Top Gun to look forward to, and that’s not even mentioning a new Ghostbusters film and James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel.
There are also a few films that we expect to be released in 2021 but don’t yet have exact release dates, and some that have now been moved to 2022.

The African-American populace has greatly contributed to the performing arts, music, and literature in America. Martin Luther Jr, Barrack Obama, Jimi Hendrix, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Morgan Freeman, and the countless other artists, athletes, political activists, and politician’s contributions will always remain unparalleled. The culture has distinctively and enormously influenced American and global worldwide culture as a whole.
The world would crumble if there wasn’t diversity in the order of things. For a long time, a certain type of people had incontrovertible authority over the kind of stories that were told and how they were told. But things have gotten better and we live in the times where diversity is celebrated (even though there are some who just can’t accept that they are not living in the Dark Ages anymore!). Every person has something new to offer to the world, and something similar happens in the world of filmmaking as well.
Movies such as Boyz N the Hood, Claudine, Shaft, New Jack City, City of God, Do the Right Thing, The Long Walk Home, and the recent superhero movie Black Panther have been highly successful. So, why not tell more African American stories. At this point, the question that might be circling your mind is what are the new African-American movies releasing? Well, the good news is that we have a clear answer to that question. Here’s the list of the upcoming black films scheduled to release in 2020 and 2021. We can only hope that these latest African-American movies are as good as some of the recent ones. Interestingly though, Jamie Foxx is going to be in a lot of them.
15. Untitled Mike Tyson Biopic (TBA)
Martin Scorsese is rumored to be at the helm of the upcoming project in development centered on the life of Mike Tyson. The Boxing superstar’s life has been quite controversial, Tyson was accused of rape and spent some time in prison as well. Regarding the biopic this is what Jamie Fox had to say in an interview: I just went in with paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.

14. The Zebra Murders (TBA)
Jamie Foxx will be starring in the upcoming project in development titled “The Zebra Murders.” No director has been attached to the project as of now. Matthew Michael Carnahan will be writing the script which will center on series of racially-motivated killings of white people by a fanatical black nationalist group, set in San Francisco in the early 1970s. The story will focus on two black cops who are able to crack the case in spite of harassment from their colleagues, with Jamie Foxx being one Earl Sanders – the cop who investigated the case and later went on to become the police chief. Right from the studio of DreamWorks Pictures, this movie will surely reveal some of the gravest memories of the mishap.

13. Signal Hill (Pre-Production)
Anthony Mackie, Jamie Foxx, and Elizabeth Banks are all starring in the upcoming adaptation of the “Signal Hill” trial. Foxx is reuniting with director (Ray) Taylor Hackford once again for this upcoming film which also centers on the chronicles of American lawyer best known for his leadership role in the defense and criminal acquittal of O.J. Simpson. David McMillan will be writing the script which will center on the Signal Hill police brutality case in 1981 where a star football player at Long Beach State is stopped for speeding and later found hanged from a bedsheet in the Signal Hill PD cellblock. Upon performing an autopsy as requested by the Football player’s parents, it is found out that the football player was choked to death and the family has rewarded a sum of $760,000 in a civil suit, with the chief of police resigning.

12. Wrong Answer (TBA)
Ryan Coogler is reuniting with his Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan for an adaptation of the Atlanta school cheating scandal titled “Wrong Answer.” New Regency will be financing and producing the picture with Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company. Ta-Nehishi Coates will be writing the screenplay which will center on the story of a maths teacher who in an effort to save his school and help his students pass the unrealistic standardized testing requirements (mandated by the No Child Left Behind program), cheats on the scores of the standardized testing which will ultimately lead to the conviction of 11 teachers on racketeering charges.

11. Coming 2 America (December 2020)
An official sequel to ‘Coming to America'(1988), the movie ‘Coming 2 America’ is all set to refresh the audience’s memories after 32 long years. With Eddie Murphy in the leading role and the likes of James Earl Jones and Wesley Snipes in supporting roles, ‘Coming 2 America’ follows the events of its predecessor and begins with Prince Akeem Joffer who is about to become the King of Zamunda, a fictional country in Africa. When he comes to know about a son he had in America, keeping in mind his father’s dying wish, Akeem heads to America to prepare his son to become a prince. This return to America is certainly going to tickle your funny bone come December.

10. Antebellum (August 2020)
Another horror film on this list, as is very evident from its name, ‘Antebellum’ is a tale of a twisted alternate reality wherein the protagonist finds herself stuck and she must work through this new reality to escape from her abusive ex-husband before it is too late. While ‘Antebellum’ may sound too much of the same, the teaser looks promising and appears to be like a breath of fresh air. Janelle Monae portrays the leading role and the movie is now all set to be released in August 2020 after being deferred by three months because of the pandemic.

9. Candyman (September 2020)
A supernatural slasher-horror flick at the outset, ‘Candyman’ is the word of mouth urban myth and the narrative of a serial supernatural killer in a Chicago neighborhood who terrorized people using his hand-hook, who could be summoned by chanting his name and who went by the name of Candyman. Cut to the present day, about 30 years later and the terror re-surfaces. With actors like Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarret, et al, produced by Jordan Peele, this one of its kind slasher horror is going to be remembered for a long time after its release.

8. Respect (December 2020)
A biographical film based on the life and times of the revered American singer and Civil Rights Activist Aretha Franklin, ‘Respect’ is definitely going to gain a lot of respect for the Afro-American community in modern-day America and the entire world. Jennifer Hudson is in the leading role as a protagonist in the film with a supporting cast that includes the likes of Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah among others. Scheduled for release in December 2020, the movie is a narrative of Franklin’s early life in Tenessee during the mid-1940s, followed by her successful career in music and the civil rights activism during the ’70s. With more than 35 studio albums and about 8 films to her credit, Franklin’s life has been an inspiration we’ve been longing to see.

7. Tenet (July 2020)
Directed by Christopher Nolan, and featuring John David Washington and Dimple Kapadia in prominent roles, ‘Tenet’ centers around a secret agent who is relentlessly fighting to save the world from another World War and his journey across the world is surrounded by many others who form an important part of the narrative. ‘Tenet’ was shot in multiple international locations like Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, etc. Set to be premiered in July 2020, the film is Nolan’s most expensive venture so far. And hopefully his best work yet. ‘Tenet’ is easily the most awaited film of 2020 and we can’t get enough of it.

6. The Eternals (February 2021)
For those who think that all is over for the MCU after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ – hold your horses because it is far from over. With the announcement of ‘The Eternals’ which happens in the aftermath of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and which is going to be the 25th MCU film, there’s still a lot of action left for the Marvel fans. Basically, The Eternals are a race of beings who are aliens and who have been created by another group of characters known as the Celestials. The Celestials and the Eternals team up to protect the world from bad guys also known as the Deviants. Like Avengers, we would also witness an ensemble cast with ‘The Eternals’ including the likes of Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan among others. It also is touted to portray the first Afro-American gay character as the superhero Phastos, a role that would be somewhat analogous to the Iron Man – a first as far as Marvel is concerned. ‘The Eternals’ is all set to hit the screens in early 2021. Grab your seats, but you will just need only the edge.

5. Spiral (May 2021)
A horror-thriller at the very outset, ‘Spiral’ has Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson in leading roles and is the 9th installment of the ‘Saw’ franchise. Directed by Darren Bousman, the movie circles around three cops – a veteran (Jackson), a roughed-up detective (Rock), and a rookie who are investigating gruesome murders in the city and which are also reminiscent of the city’s horrible past. Although the franchise has seen some ups and downs over the years, the likes of Chris Rock (who is perhaps new to this genre of movies) can be a fresh inclusion and might rejuvenate the whole franchise. Let’s wait up and see.

4. Blade (2022)
After Wesley Snipes who had played the beloved character of half-vampire half-human and who hunts for the undead in the dark, Mahershala Ali is all set to replace Snipes in this upcoming Marvel’s reboot of the franchise. Ali, who is a two-time Academy Award winner for his roles in ‘Moonlight (2016)’ and ‘Green Book (2018)’ had donned the “Blade” cap at one of the events alongside Kevin Fiege. It would be intriguing to see the changes Ali brings to the legendary character and whether Marvel decides to continue the franchise under Ali’s name. The movie is all set to be released in 2022.

3. Fatale (October 2020)
Directed by Deon Taylor and featuring Hilary Swank, Michael Ealy and Mike Colter in prominent roles, ‘Fatale’ is a psychological thriller that surrounds a detective who has forever been a disgrace for her colleagues and her police department, but who is determined to investigate Darren (Michael Ealy) who is a sports agent and who gradually witnesses the ebb of his otherwise perfectly beautiful life. Swank and Ealy’s characters also have a love and hate relationship, the details of which unfortunately aren’t known at this stage. ‘Fatale’ sounds promising and marks Swank’s return on the big screen after horror-thriller flick ‘The Hunt’.

2. Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 2021)
Aka ‘Space Jam 2’, this new movie is going to be the sequel of ‘Space Jam (1996)’ and more importantly features LeBron James and Don Cheadle in leading roles. Touted to be a live-action cum animated sports film, this Malcolm D. Lee’s directorial showcases LeBron teaming up with Looney Tunes’ characters including Bugs Bunny for a whole new adventure. Don Cheadle will play the villain in this flick along with several NBA and WNBA members who appear as themselves in the movie. As far as wooing the audiences is concerned, I am less concerned because of the celebrity players with a huge fan-following that are already a part of the “team”.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, and prominently featuring Dylan O’Brien, Mark Wahlberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor among others, ‘Infinite’ is a psychological thriller-drama which surrounds the life of a man, one Evan Michaels who is haunted by the memories of his past, only to realize that they have been visions from his past lives. Secret cults, dangerous societies, and unnerving secrets form the core of the film. Chiwetel happens to play the villain in this one and is touted to be a member of the “Infinite” who plans on stopping the reincarnation and past-memories coming back thing. A unique premise, ‘Infinite’ sounds promising at the very outset and we can’t be more excited about it.

16. Outside the Wire

Anthony Mackie is in hot demand at the moment and sadly couldn’t elevate this movie into something great but is still an enjoyable action flick all the same.
Outside the Wire follows a drone pilot who teams up with a new android officer in the hopes of stopping a nuclear attack.
15. Arlo the Alligator Boy

Cast: Michael J. Woodard, Ryan Crego, Dee Bradley Baker
Sadly for whatever reason, it looks as though Arlo the Alligator Boy hasn’t had a huge release on Netflix with only a few hundred submitting reviews onto IMDb thus far.
However, this movie is absolutely brilliant watch for the young ones with a hand-drawn aesthetic, some earworm songs, and the promise of it being a franchise Netflix invests in with an upcoming companion TV series.
14. Finding ‘Ohana

Netflix ended 2020 with the family feature film We Can Be Heroes and in our opinion, then topped it in late January with the new kids-focused film, Finding ‘Ohana.
The movie is a hybrid of The Goonies and Indiana Jones where a group of kids in the summer set out to find secret lost treasures.
Many have praised it being an excellent family adventure while some have called it too predictable and far inferior to the aforementioned Goonies movie.
13. Bombay Rose

Netflix has been stepping up big time on the animation front and Bombay Rose is an excellent example of this. The hour and a half long feature film has every frame hand-painted and as a result, looks absolutely gorgeous.
The love story sees two who hope to one day be together but religious differences and duty hold them back.
12. Malcolm Marie

Let’s be honest, most of the “lockdown” series and movies produced with limited budgets have been subpar at best. That doesn’t apply to Malcolm Marie which is wholly carried by two stunning performances by the leads.
The movie picks up after an awards evening with a couple coming home to have something to eat and then head to bed. However, tensions arise which leads to several arguments throughout the early hours of the morning.
While the movie does feel like it repeats itself several times throughout, it’s still an excellent character piece with two of today’s best actors.

Hot off the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League for HBO Max, Netflix had its project with the famed director lined up to kickstart its summer 2021 movie schedule.
Snyder, known for his remake of Dawn of the Dead, reentered the zombie space with a fun 2 and a half hour frolic in the Las Vegas desert. While it’s certainly not going to be for everyone and you could spend all afternoon picking apart its gaping plot holes, there’s still a fun time to be had with impressive visuals albeit often nauseating depth of field.
10. Space Sweepers
Director: Sung-hee Jo
Cast: Song Joong-Ki, Kim Tae-ri, Seon-kyu Jin
If big sci-fi Blockbusters are your thing then Space Sweepers should be high up on your agenda.
The Korean movie is set years into the future when crews of space sweepers are after space debris to earn a few bucks. We follow one crew who seemingly manages to find a way to save their homeworld.
The movie jumps in and out of Korean with plenty of English spoken throughout which makes this a truly international movie with stellar CGI.
Its major pitfalls are what I think are hallmarks of Asian movies that tend to tell stories slightly different and can give you whiplash trying to keep up but perhaps that’s a personal flaw more than the movie’s flaw.
9. Oxygen
Director: Alexandre Aja
Cast: Mélanie Laurent, Mathieu Amalric, Malik Zidi
Oxygen is another perfect example of a movie that you would’ve probably missed or looked over had it had a traditional theatrical release.
Although it’s simplistic and perhaps not the most inspired plot in the world, it is executed very well.
The story is about a woman awaking in a cryogenic chamber lacking in memory as to how she got there or who she is but it’s a race against time as oxygen is slowly running out.
8. The Woman in the Window
Director: Joe Wright
Cast: Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie
There’s been a number of movies swept up by the pandemic preventing it from getting a wide theatrical release with The Woman in the Window ultimately getting sold from Fox to Netflix.
While the movie certainly has flaws, it sees another flawless performance from Amy Adams who plays an agoraphobic woman living in New York.
7. The Dig
Director: Simon Stone
Cast: Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James
Exemplary performances are found throughout this biopic that relives the moments of the excavation of the Sutton Hoo.
The British production is superbly written and while the subject matter may not appeal to all, those who do dig in will find plenty to remember.
6. Pieces of a Woman
Director: Kornél Mundruczó
Cast: Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Ellen Burstyn
While the release of Pieces of a Woman may have been slightly overshadowed by the allegations hanging over Shia LaBeouf, that shouldn’t discourage you from watching this heart-tugging and emotional feature.
Going on to be nominated for an Oscar, the movie follows a birth that goes wrong and a family’s efforts to get justice. The opening 15 minutes alone are some of the most wrenching minutes you’ll be able to watch on Netflix and this will almost certainly be a painful watch for some so bear that in mind before clicking play.
Vanessa Kirby’s performance, in particular, is absolutely sublime.
5. Love and Monsters
Director: Michael Matthews
Cast: Dylan O’Brien, Jessica Henwick, Michael Rooker
Picked up for international distribution is the paramount Pictures movie Love and Monsters. Set in a dystopian future where monsters rule the world, we follow a rather hopeless Joel who has to go on a quest outside of his bunker to find his ex.
The movie was nominated for an Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.
4. News of the World
Director: Paul Greengrass
Cast: Tom Hanks, Helena Zengel, Tom Astor
Note: Not available in Netflix in the United States
Netflix acquired the international rights to this Tom Hanks movie from Universal Pictures that went onto be nominated for 2 Golden Globes.
The movie takes you on a journey with Hanks and Zengel who are on the search for the young girl’s true home while stopping off in towns to read out newspapers to the townsfolks.
It’s a slow burn but has some excellent character development throughout with detailed sets and superb costumes.
3. The White Tiger
Director: Ramin Bahrani
Cast: Adarsh Gourav, Rajkummar Rao, Priyanka Chopra
Over the past few years, Netflix has really been ramping up production of Indian content and perhaps the best titles to have come out of those efforts is The White Tiger.
The hybrid language movie follows a young man hoping to make it big in the criminal underworld.
With great performances from all, the movie is an excellent example of one that thrives on a global Netflix but wouldn’t necessarily be one that does well in a traditional cinema environment.
2. I Care A Lot
Cast: Peter Dinklage, Rosamund Pike, Alicia Witt, Chris Messina, Damian Young,

I Care A Lot rocked the top 10 charts when it released in February 2021 and for good reason, it’s a gripping drama featuring an absolutely sublime performance from Rosamund Pike who brings out a kind of contempt I haven’t had for a character in a long while.
The story follows an astute businesswoman who is in the business of care and sucking out all the cash from wealthy older clients. Her game is disrupted however when she manages to find a client that may not be who she seems to be.
It’s a movie you’d probably have missed out on if it got a traditional theatrical release but absolutely thrived on Netflix.
1. The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Cast: Charlyne Yi, Olivia Colman, Eric André
Netflix Animation has been improving year over year and although The Mitchells vs. The Machines doesn’t come out from Netflix themselves, it’s by far one of their best releases to date.
Complete with stunning visuals, a stellar voice cast lineup the movie is the complete package for the entire family and therefore, our favorite movie so far of 2021.
The Sony Animation Picture follows a family on a road trip that gets rudely interrupted by killer robots who invade earth.
