New on Disney+ January 2023: Movies, TV Shows, & Originals
This Month’s Highlight
Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2
Disney+’s library is a bit light this month, but if you’re a fan of Star Wars, the Clone Wars spinoff is debuting its second season already. The series follows ex-clone troopers in the wake of Order 66, helping some familiar faces along the way. For some, it’s no The Mandalorian, but underestimate not Star Wars’ animation. (Streaming January 4.)

New on Netflix January 2023: Movies, TV, Original Series
This Week’s Highlight
Kaleidoscope
Eric Garcia’s new series Kaleidoscope is eight episodes that span 25 years as its crew of thieves plan the ultimate heist. The twist, though, is Netflix claiming you can watch this series in almost any order. Weird, sure. It’s not exactly interactive like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, but Kaleidoscope is one of Netflix’s latest attempts to immerse you into a series’ interactive storytelling. Will we care? Depends how badly you need a show to binge after Emily in Paris. (Streaming January 1.)

New Movies & Shows To Watch This Weekend: Love, Lizzo on HBO Max + More
Where to Stream:
Love Lizzo
Whether you want a feel-good documentary, a nostalgic hit of music from years past, or you’re ready to blast into Christmas now that Turkey Day is over, there are tons of new releases that are streaming this week that will get you where you want to go. With so many great new shows and films to choose from, let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: Love, Lizzo, Meet Me In The Bathroom, The Hip Hop Nutcracker + More
This week, I’m thankful for the music that has been the soundtrack of my life, and it seems that each of the new releases we’re covering here has helped define certain seasons that I’ve lived through. First, there’s the brand-new documentary Love, Lizzo on HBO Max, which features the music and plenty of words of wisdom from pop star-slash-positivity guru Lizzo, whose music has been inescapable – in a good way – for the last several years. Dialing it back 20 years or so, there’s Showtime’s documentary Meet Me In The Bathroom, about the rise of New York City’s most popular indie bands of the early aughts. As someone who spent my 20s in New York right as these bands burst onto the scene, it’s impossible not to feel nostalgic (also, old) reliving the magic and music of that era. And on Disney+, the new special The Hip Hop Nutcracker puts a new spin on a holiday tradition many people, myself included, look forward to every year.
Want to know more about these highlights and the rest of the stellar weekend lineup? Check out the rest of the hit titles new on streaming this weekend below:
New on Disney+ November 25: The Hip Hop Nutcracker
There have been many, many versions of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker over the last century or so, but none have brought it to life in the way that the new Disney+ version, The Hip Hop Nutcracker does. This fresh, modern take blends much of the traditional music and ballet (there are appearances from ballet greats Mikhail Baryshnikov and Tiler Peck) with hip hop choreography and dancers that include Caché Melvin as Maria-Clara and the Jabbawockeez as part of the snowflake ensemble. Tying the whole thing together is your MC for the show, Rev Run of Run DMC. If The Nutcracker is a tradition in your house, kick off the season with a new version that has something for everyone in the family.
Stream The Hip Hop Nutcracker on Disney+
New on HBO Max November 24: Love, Lizzo
Filmed over the course of three years, Love, Lizzo is a documentary profiling one of the most engaging and outspoken entertainers in recent years, Lizzo. The flute-playing superstar’s road to success was not a clear path, and yet she has transcended genres and captured the hearts of pretty much everyone who has heard her music. As we watch her perform and detail the story of her childhood all the way to her current status as that bitch, she hammers home the message that’s woven through her music, about the importance of being true to yourself and embracing everything that makes you different.
New on Showtime November 24: Meet Me In The Bathroom
There’s no music sound that defines the early 2000s more than New York City rock and roll bands like The Strokes, Interpol, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Meet Me In The Bathroom, the new documentary that’s based on the oral history book of the same name, is a time machine that will take you back 20 years to relive that sound all over again. Featuring archival footage and interviews with the bands and tastemakers of the time – many of whom are still around and making music, just a little more gray at the temples – the movie is a time capsule of the post-9/11 era in New York when artists created a signature vibe that’s still synonymous with the city it was created in.
