The first trailer for the third entry in the Fantastic Beasts film series has hit the internet today. Titled Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the film will see series lead Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) team up with a younger Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) in order to stand against dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) and his army of loyal followers. 

The film is a sequel to 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindelwald, which received a rather lukewarm reception from both critics and the passionate Harry Potter fanbase. This third outing is being positioned as an effort to course-correct, as Warner Bros looks to get its Wizarding World franchise back on track. 

The Jefferson Parish Library’s Harry Potter Yule Fest is back with a twist. Instead of a one-day event, it will be a monthlong experience featuring ongoing activities and grab-n-go crafts.

Starting Nov. 29 and running until Jan. 6, 2022, activities can be completed to earn points toward Harry Potter-themed raffle prizes.

These activities include:

• Weekly Harry Potter grab-n-go craft kits. Patrons may request kits online and have them sent to any library location. Weekly kits will feature one of the following each week: wands, potions, Patronus scratch art, and a Marauder’s Map ornament.
• A weekly downloadable craft that will be made available at the same time as the grab-n-go crafts
• A Harry Potter activity book with puzzles and coloring sheets that can be downloaded or picked from a Jefferson Parish library branch
• Snitch Scavenger Hunt – find the hidden snitches and decipher the magical spell.
• House Elf on the Shelf Hunt – Find the hidden Dobby and earn a secret code word
• Photo booth — Harry Potter-themed photo booths will be available at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie, and the West Bank Regional Library, 2750 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, as well as other larger branch libraries. Patrons can pose in Harry Potter photo booth and tag us on social media – #HPYule2021.

TALKING BOOKS AND BRAILLE: The library partners with the state Library of Louisiana Talking Books and Braille Library to provide free public library service to Louisiana residents of all ages who cannot easily read standard printed materials due to a visual impairment, physical disability or a reading disability, whether it is permanent or temporary.

Anyone who is legally blind or totally blind is eligible. People with a physical disability that prevents them from holding a book or turning its pages are also eligible. Individuals with a reading disability certified by a doctor may also use the services.

The collection consists of more than 75,000 titles in nonprint formats (Braille, cassette, digital cartridge, and large print) on a broad range of fiction and nonfiction subjects, for all ages. The library lends playback machines to those using the recorded materials. Recorded magazine subscriptions are also available.

Books and magazines are mailed free to and from library patrons wherever they reside. Currently, more than 6,000 Louisiana residents actively use the library service.

WORLD WAR II DISCUSSION GROUP: David Stone, former foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State, will discuss the Munich Conference of 1938, at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, at the River Ridge Library, 8825 Jefferson Highway.

The controversial event allowed Germany to annex the Sudetenland in west Czechoslovakia. The agreement was reached by Germany, Great Britain, France and Italy.

WHO?: The Dr. Who group meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

Doctor Who is a cult favorite about the journeys of a time-traveling eccentric. Members of the library’s Doctor Who Video Club watch episodes and discuss them afterward. Bob Sylvia hosts.

LEARN HEBREW: Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Rededication, begins at sundown Nov. 28. It’s a great time to commit to learning Hebrew.

The Jefferson Parish Library offers a free language-learning program called Mango that features dozens of languages, including Hebrew.

Snapchat and Harry Potter come together to celebrate 20 years of the latter’s movie franchise. In collaboration with the Warner Bros, Snapchat has added a new Harry Potter Lens to let users celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first movie release. The Lens comes just days before the four-part quiz show competition series – Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses releases on November 28.

Harry Potter fans on Snapchat can now find the lens in the lens section and use it to make celebratory Snaps. Snapchat says the fans can speak to the camera using Snapchat’s VoiceML technology. They can dress up like Harry Potter characters, decorate their snaps with Hogwarts house colours, and even have an AR face paint. The Lens will let the fans support all four Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

“Being the first-ever television event from the Harry Potter franchise, Snap Warner Bros. wanted to create a Lens experience for true Harry Potter-lovers to celebrate the cultural moment in style, and bring some of the fun to Snapchatters watching from home,” said Snap Lens Creator, Hart Woolery.

“I was inspired by imaginative nature of the Harry Potter series, the visual effects created for the films, and the feeling of camaraderie created by the houses within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” he adds.

– First, you need to open the Snapchat app and head to the Snapchat Camera.

– You can find the Harry Potter Lens within the Snap Lens Carousel, or take a picture of the Harry Potter Snapcode.

– Next, you need to tap the microphone button to enable voice commands.

– Now you need to tap the floating prompt above your head. For example, you can click on “Tap to Change House,” which will ask you to say voice commands such as “Go Go Gryffindor”, or “Go GoHufflepuff”.

– Once you say the name of your house, you can see the Ar stuff dressing you up in that house’s festive colours, attire, and face paint.

It was not to be, but the TV version of Rooney’s debut novel, Conversations With Friends, about two college students and their connection with a married couple, looks on schedule to finally arrive in 2022.

“We would love to develop more original Harry Potter series, and we regularly talk to JK Rowling and her team,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s got to be right though. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon, and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World, and who Harry is.”

Earlier this year, it was reported that a live-action Harry Potter TV series was in early development at HBO Max, although no specific details were revealed about what form such a show might take – nor have there been any updates since.

But one small-screen project that has been confirmed is a cast reunion to mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – the first film in the series.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will all take part in the HBO Max special, with a wealth of other franchise stars including Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Ian Hart, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis and Evanna Lynch all in line for an appearance.

Meanwhile, the third Fantastic Beasts film, which has been subtitled The Secrets of Dumbledore, is currently slated for release on 15th April 2022 – with Mads Mikkelsen set to replace Johnny Depp in the role of Gellert Grindelwald.

A synopsis for the film reads: “Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world.

“Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers.

“But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

You don’t have to be a Potterhead to know about the Hogwarts Express. Now, the imaginary magical train from the Harry Potter world has come to life. A 3D artist from Kazakhstan recreated the Hogwarts Express and fulfilled his childhood dreams.

Iskander Utebayev, a 3D artist from Kazakhstan’s Nur-Sultan, has brought the imaginary train to life. He posted a video of his recreation of the magical train, which went viral on social media. Utebayev has 1.2 million Instagram followers who unleashed their inner Harry Potter fan after watching the upgraded version of the Hogwarts Express.

Yesterday, the first-look teaser of the much-awaited Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts was revealed by HBO Max. This year marks two decades since the first Harry Potter film hit theatres in 2001.

In the teaser, different characters of Harry Potter series can be seen receiving invitation letters wrapped in an envelope which is exactly like the letters sent to Hogwarts students.

Fans can see their favorite characters once again in the reunion. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton and Chris Columbus among others are in the list of attendees.

The Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will follow the model of Friends reunion and there will not be any script.

The orchestra, led by John Jesensky, will perform the score during three screenings this weekend, wrapping up the eight part concert series that has been truly magical for Harry Potter fans and classical music lovers alike.

And “Deathly Hallows — Part II,” one of the best-reviewed films of the series, promises even more thrills as our hero Harry Potter gets his showdown with the evil Lord Voldemort. It will all be shown on a high-definition, 40-foot screen.

Desplat’s score was widely praised as well, especially since he worked in elements from some the series’ previous iconic John Williams musical themes.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child December 15 Matinee Canceled

This evening’s performance is currently scheduled to go on as planned.

Fans of the Wizarding World will have to wait a little while longer to cast a spell. The December 15 matinee 1 PM performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been canceled due to a breakthrough COVID-19 case. Performances are expected to resume for the 7 PM performance this evening.

The newly condensed, one-part production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened on Broadway December 7. The play, penned by Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany, and original series author J.K. Rowling, takes place 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows as the title wizard’s youngest son begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Broadway production stars James Snyder as Harry Potter and Diane Davis as Ginny Potter alongside James Romney as their son Albus Potter; David Abeles as Ron Weasley, Jenny Jules as Hermione Granger, and Nadia Brown as their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley; and Aaron Bartz as Draco Malfoy and Brady Dalton Richards as his son Scorpius Malfoy.

The show is the latest in a string of COVID-19 cancellations, including Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of the Temptations, Freestyle Love Supreme, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Tina—The Tina Turner Musical.
