Harry Potter fans plead with National Trust to let ‘Dobby the elf’s grave’ stay on Pembrokeshire beach as conservation charity says it may need to be moved as to protect Freshwater West’s fragile sand dunes

Harry Potter fans have begged the National Trust not to move Dobby’s beachside grave after the conservation charity said it needed to protect the fragile sand dunes.

Potterheads have been flocking to the spot at Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire to pay homage to one of the books best-loved characters.

The fictional house-elf was buried at the location in the 2010 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 after he was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange.

It attracts thousands of visitors who leave tributes like painted stones, socks, tea towels, flowers, dolls, gnomes, and laminated messages.

But it has become so popular that fears are raised about whether it is ‘sustainable in the long-term’.

Bosses at the trust were concerned that large crowds could cause damage to the natural beauty of the beach.

Potterheads have been flocking to the spot at Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire to pay homage to one of the books best-loved characters

A consultation funded by the UK Government was commissioned by the National Trust who own most of Freshwater beach.

The consultation reads: ‘Freshwater West is much loved and over time has become increasingly popular.

‘Access to nature and the outdoors for all is vitally important but the increase in visitors has added pressure on the environment and facilities.

‘This does not feel sustainable in the long-term, without negatively impacting this special place.

‘Those who care for it, enjoy it and live locally want only the best for Freshwater West. To help understand the issues and consider what options there are for the future a public consultation has begun.’

Dobby was a key character in the Harry Potter films in the struggle against he-who-must-not-be-named and died at the hands of Bellatrix after rescuing Harry and friends from Malfoy Manor in the Deathly Hallows film.

A sculpture was engraved with the words ‘Dobby is a free elf in Pembrokeshire’ at the spot.

Outraged fans are demanding Dobby’s grave be allowed to stay.

One said: ‘Why are some people so damn miserable. People come from all over to see this and the children love it.’

A spokesperson from National Trust Cymru, Pembrokeshire said: ‘The two main objectives of the consultation are to engage with the public, local businesses and voluntary, public and private sector business affected by growing visitor numbers and deliver a feasibility study and options appraisal for the car park and related facilities at Freshwater West.

‘Dobby’s Grave, its ongoing creation, definition, and impact on the landscape is a topic for discussion as part of that consultation process.

‘Once the consultation process has ended in August a presentation of findings and recommendations will be delivered publicly and to key stakeholders.

‘This will help create a vision for a sustainable future for Freshwater West and guide us in any future decisions we make for this exceptional place.’

Harry Potter fans can visit Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse for the first time

For fans of the insanely popular Harry Potter franchise, Professor Sprout’s greenhouse with the screaming Mandrakes is something we’re not quick to forget.

This summer Warner Bros. Studio Tour London are opening up the glass doors of the iconic greenhouse for the very first time giving fans the exciting experience of seeing where students were taught Herbology up close and personal.

The greenhouse has been built by the original Harry Potter filmmakers and is home to exotic and magical plants. If you ever found yourself wanting to pull out a screeching Mandrake from a pot, well now you can.

It’s not just Mandrakes that you can find yourself playing with, the Venomous Tentacula hangs from the ceiling which fans will remember from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The greenhouse is a permanent addition opening up to the public on July 1st as part of the brand new Mandrakes and Magical Creatures feature.

It’s not just the greenhouse though, visitors can look forward to a warm welcome to the Great Hall to the Frog Choir scene of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban alongside Professor Flitwick’s costume worn by Warwick Davis.

The Green House from Harry Potter

Keep your eyes peeled as you make your way around the tour as Dumbledore’s beloved Fawkes, Cornish Pixies and animatronic Monster Book of Monsters can be spotted during your time.

For those who enjoy knowing the processes behind filmmaking, you can learn how Thestrals and Mandrakes were brought to life in the Creatures Workshop.

Not only is there an exciting addition to the tour of Professor Sprout’s greenhouse, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London will also be expanding the exterior sets in their backlot with the fountain from the Hogwarts courtyard and a 1:3 scale-version of the Weasleys’ Burrow.

This is particularly interesting for fans of filmmaking as they can learn the levels of camera magic that took place to capture the family home. During production The Burrow took 14 weeks to build to then come down in flames in just six minutes.

Professor Sprout’s greenhouse, the courtyard fountain and the exterior of the Weasleys’ Burrow will be permanent additions to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

For ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series, a case of diminishing returns

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” got off to a less than magical start in its first weekend in U.S. and Canadian theaters. The third installment in the Harry Potter spinoff opened to $43 million in North America, according to studio estimates Sunday.

It was enough to secure the film the top spot on the box office charts, but it’s also a low for the franchise. The first film had a $74.4 million debut in 2016 and the second, “The Crimes of Grindelwald” opened to $62.2 million in 2018. “The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which Warner Bros. released in 4,208 locations in North America, also carries a $200 million production price tag.

It’s more common than not for sequels and threequels to come in lower than their predecessors, but “Dumbledore” also follows several franchise titles that defied that logic, including “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Venom 2” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.”

Critics were largely not on board with “Dumbledore.” With a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, most came in on the negative side. AP Film Writer Jake Coyle wrote in his review that “the purpose of these movies has never felt like much beyond keeping the Potter train running” and that this iteration is “a bit of a bore.” Audiences, which were 56% female, were a little kinder, giving it four stars on PostTrak and an overall B+ CinemaScore.

The eight Harry Potter films were responsible for over $7.7 billion in box office, while the first two “Fantastic Beasts” films made $1.5 billion total.

This installment stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Ezra Miller and Mads Mikkelsen.

In its second weekend, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” fell 58% and earned an estimated $30 million, according to paramount. The film has grossed $119.6 million to date.

Sony also released “Father Stu” in 2,705 locations on Wednesday. Starring Mark Wahlberg, who helped finance the film, “Father Stu” is based on a true story and is a rare mainstream Hollywood movie with religious themes. It earned an estimated $8 million in its first five days in theaters.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

1. “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” $43 million.

2. “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” $30 million.

3. “The Lost City,” $6.5 million.

4. “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” $6.2 million.

5. “Father Stu,” $5.7 million.

6. “Morbius,” $4.7 million.

7. “Ambulance,” $4 million.

8. “The Batman,” $3.8 million.

9. “K.G.F.: Chapter 2,” $2.9 million.

10. “Uncharted,” $1.2 million.

Baby with ‘Harry Potter’ wand unleashes Voldemort-like scream: ‘He’s definitely not a muggle’

A baby boy perfectly channeled Voldemort when he got his hands on a toy wizarding wand.

Fans of the Harry Potter series are shaking over this mini version of He Who Must Not Be Named. The little boy’s Voldemort-like laugh (and energy) was adorably too close for comfort in a viral video posted by @scarehbelle on TikTok.

4 mortgage truths that may surprise you

The boy waved around the plastic wand with a glowing blue tip. He shrieked “da-da-da-da” before letting out a loud screech, clutching his fists and throwing the wand.

The hilarious clip received 5.6 million views and 1.5 million likes on TikTok.

“Voldemort is quivering,” a user wrote.

Chlöe Bailey on why self-love should be sexy:

“Well he’s definitely not a muggle,” another said.

“I think he gets an automatic early enrollment to Hogwarts. Pre-school wizarding game is strong!” a person commented.

“IDK what just happened but now my dog is floating,” a TikToker replied.

However, most users compared the boy to a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two.

“Translation: the boy who lived, come to die. Avada kedavra,” someone said.

In the film, the villain Voldemort tells the protagonist Harry Potter, “The boy who live, come to die,” then launches a killing spell at him by saying, “Avada kedavra.” The spell emits a giant blue blast of energy similar to the color of the baby boy’s wand.

So let’s just hope the tiny tot’s parents can get him to harness all that power for good.

Hogwarts Legacy ‘may not launch until 2023’, it’s claimed

Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming Harry Potter RPG, may not launch until 2023, according to a journalist.

Speaking on his Sacred Symbols+ podcast (paywalled on Patreon, transcribed by VGC), Colin Moriarty when his co-host brought the game up in discussion said, “I’m hearing behind the scenes that game is not coming out this year, and that it’s in some sort of trouble.”

While Moriarty didn’t elaborate, the game hasn’t been publicly shown in some time, and currently has no release date beyond 2022.

UPDATE 19/01/22: Following claims that Hogwarts Legacy’s release could be delayed to next year, an official update has stated that the game is on track to arrive in 2022.

Hogwarts Legacy ‘may not launch until 2023’, it’s claimed

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: Late last year, Rachel Wakely, Warner Bros. general manager spoke to Toy World magazine about the Wizarding World IP, in which she referred to “two major releases in 2022”. The first was the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbeldore, she said, which releases in the UK on April 8. The second was Hogwarts Legacy.

“From what we’ve seen, the launch will be well worth the wait and deliver a unique way for fans to interact with the franchise”.

This could suggest that the game isn’t set to release until after Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbeldore.

Hogwarts Legacy ‘may not launch until 2023’, it’s claimed

Hogwarts Legacy will also reportedly add the ability for players to create transgender heroes, following controversy stemming from comments made by series creator J.K. Rowling.

In the 18 months, Rowling has been criticised for making several comments perceived to be transphobic on her Twitter account, which caused many Harry Potter movie actors, including leads Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne, to publicly voice their support for the transgender community.

According to a Bloomberg report citing anonymous sources at Warner Bros.’ Avalanche studio, some members of the game’s development have since fought to make the game as inclusive as possible, in response to the author’s comments.

Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch gives the real reason why JK Rowling wasn’t at the Hogwarts reunion

Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch has explained why JK Rowling was not present at the Harry Potter reunion.

The 30-year-old said that despite some of the cast such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint coming out against some of the writer’s views there wasn’t a rift.

She told GB News: “I’ve talked to all the cast, they all have great respect for her even if they don’t agree with her beliefs. I really strongly disagree with the narrative that there’s a rift.”

The Harry Potter stars have publicly disagreed with Rowling over her views on gender identity which some have labelled as transphobic.

Evanna said that everyone had their “strong beliefs” and that it had required “a very difficult conversation” between Rowling and cast members.

However, she disagrees with the idea that Rowling was given the “cold shoulder” when it came to the reunion, with her name not appearing anywhere on promotional material and the lack of an in-person appearance begging the question.

“I reject the narrative that there’s been a cold shoulder,” said Evanna.

Adding: “I think she’s busy writing books, I don’t think that was about the conversations that have been had about more controversial issues.”

“I think she was busy and never on the sets very often. She’s still a big part of it.”

‘Harry Potter’ reunion: Emma Watson and Rupert Grint considered quitting ‘Potter’

  • Emma Watson and Rupert Grint said they both considered quitting “Harry Potter.”
  • The pair said the fame of the film franchise took a toll on their lives.
  • “The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way,” Watson said.

Over 3 million people read ; you should too!

The actors Emma Watson and Rupert Grint said they both considered quitting their roles in the “Harry Potter” film franchise during its eight-film run because of the pressure childhood stardom put on their lives.

Watson and Grint — who played Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in all eight “Potter” films — discussed their time acting in the franchise during HBO Max‘s wizarding-world reunion show “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.”

The one-off reunion special was commissioned to mark the 20th anniversary of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the first film in the “Potter” franchise. At one point during the show, Grint recalled a time during the production of the films when Watson brought up the possibility of her exit.

“You were considering pulling out. I’ve never really spoken to you about that,” Rupert said, according to a clip seen by ET Canada.

Watson replied: “Yeah. I think I was scared. I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point where you were like, ‘This is kind of forever now.'”

Grint later said that he also had moments “all the way through” his time as Ron Weasley in the “Harry Potter” films when he would be “contemplating what life would be like if I called it a day.”

Speaking about his anxieties from the time, Daniel Radcliffe, who played the titular role, said: “We never really spoke about it. I guess we were just going through it at our own pace. We were kind of in the moment at the time. It just didn’t really occur to us that we were all probably kind of having similar feelings.”

“The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way,” Watson added.

Later during the reunion, David Yates, who directed the final four “Potter” films, said that when he was drafted into the franchise, one thing David Heyman, the series’ producer, “and the studio spoke to me about was, ‘Emma is not sure she wants to come back to do another Potter.'”

The British actor Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the film series, also continued to highlight the pressure Emma Watson was subjected to as the lone female lead in the franchise.

“People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it,” he said. “Dan and Rupert, they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.”

Watson concluded by saying that “no one had to convince” her to stay. The support of the franchise’s fans and her costars, she said, gave her the confidence to continue in her role.

“The fans genuinely wanted you to succeed, and we all genuinely have each other’s backs. How great is that?” she said.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” airs January 1 on HBO Max.
