“He has improved so much this horse – you know that race, he might be up to it.”
McDonald smiled and nodded when asked if it was The Everest he was referring too after winning the benchmark 94 over 1100m.
“He is definitely progressing that way,” McDonald continued. “I had to do what I had to do to get to that spot, and then he just idled.
“But once that horse, [runner-up] Dragonstone, joined him he just went to another level, and he will be just as good on better ground.”
Andermatt is unbeaten as a gelding and will head to Scone next month for the Luskin Star Stakes, a race that has a history of producing Everest contenders, including last year’s winner Lost And Running.
