His venue had never had a stronger slate, Hocking said, with The Wedding Singer selling to capacity crowds and the upcoming Ghost Stories “booking like a steam train”.
“Harry Potter is back and looking at a run of many years,” he said. “With Moulin Rouge coming into the Regent, with Frozen followed by Hamilton coming to Her Maj, clearly Melbourne is back as the cultural capital.”
Hamilton premiered on Broadway in August 2015 and took home 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album.
Before the pandemic, it was playing on tour in the US and in London’s West End, where it opened in January 2017 winning seven Olivier Awards.
