Weekend Box Office: Clear skies for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

The beloved children’s story has become a beloved children’s movie as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs more than triples the return of the number 2 movie with $30 million for the weekend. The Informant! also opened this weekend and got over $10 million for the weekend narrowly beating out Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. The other two movie openers this weekend also made the top five with Love Happens taking number 4 and Jennifer’s Body taking number 5. This shows that people have been hungry for new movies and entertainment. This weekend had some pretty good movies coming out and the box office shows this. Inglourious Basterds remains in the top ten for the fifth week in a row which shows that people are embracing Tarentino’s new film as much as he does.

In Theaters Now: Something for everyone

This weekend some great movies will actually be hitting the screen after some pretty dull weeks this is a good sign. We’ve got a comedy, a chick flick and something for the kids.

The Informant!

This move stars Matt Damon and place in him in a goofy crime comedy. This movie tells the story of Mark Whitacre who discovers that the agricultural company he works for has been price fixing. He decides to turn evidence for the FBI. The only problem: he not only fails to mention his own unsavory activities but threatens to ruin the entire investigation. This movie falls flat of the entertainment it promises for many critics but with a great performance by Matt Damon, and the fact that many of us go to the movies to be entertained, this movie is worth going to see.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

I read this book as a child and I am still skeptical about the idea of it becoming a full length movie. But the reviews for it have been sky high, with critics praising the script, animation and even the voice actors. The story is about a very poor town that have limited choice in the food they eat, so misunderstood inventor Flint, makes his greatest invention yet, a machine that makes tasty food from water. But once the rain of food comes down on the city things start to go wrong.

Love Happens

This movie tells the story of widower Burke who goes to Seattle to teach a seminar on mourning the loss of loved ones. It is here that he meets Eloise, who in unconventional ways helps him heal from the pain of his own wife’s death. There is little real chemistry happening between Burke and Eloise which makes the movie feel like a little stilted while still being sappy enough to make you groan. But then again that is why women love chick flicks.
