In Theaters Now: “Aliens” for the kids and “Funny People” for the adults
Friday, July 31, 2009 15:28 No CommentsFunny People I think is going to take a lot of people by surprise, because it’s more than a comedy and when it changes it never goes the direction you expect. The good thing about this movie is that it seems real, it doesn’t make the assumption that incredible situations turn people into self-sacrificing, perfect individuals, which to me is incredibly intriguing.
New on DVD: The real “Fast and Furious” Sequel.
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 10:58 No CommentsWhile this may have been the fourth installment in the Fast & Furious series, for me it’s the only real sequel worth mentioning. The original characters are back and they’re working together while trying to deal with the fact that once again the law is between them. The writing is fairly well-done for what was possibly expected to be another fast cars action flick, and the characters are much deeper and there is a much more intricate plot than you’ll find in the basic action film.

Castlevania Coming to Big Screen
Monday, July 27, 2009 7:34 No CommentsVideo game publisher Konami is in negotiations with James Wan (he of the Saw series) to direct the big screen adaptation of the video game classic Castlevania. Hey, at least it isn’t a whole movie based on the View-Master. Ian Jeffers is set to pen the script (he may actually use a computer, or a [...]
In Theaters Now: Guinea Pigs and Politics take center stage.
Friday, July 24, 2009 6:12 No CommentsIn the Loop stars Peter Capaldi, James Gandolfini and Tim Hollander, and tells about the interactions of Britain and the U.S. over the thought of going to war.Critics and moviegoers alike have hailed this movie as being among the freshest films we’ll see this summer, and I could not agree more.
New on DVD: Coraline and Watchmen Battle it out
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 1:15 No CommentsCoraline is the reason why CGI animation should never completely replace stop-motion because the time that was taken to make every scene of this movie perfect and for every day items to be transformed is nothing short of amazing.
Weekend Box Office: Potter does not Disappoint
Monday, July 20, 2009 12:02 No CommentsHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince more than quadrupled the weekend returns of its closest competitor Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Ice Age has had a remarkable showing these past few weeks, which seems to express the power of children’s movies during the summer.
In Theaters Now: ‘Potter’ Opens Unopposed
Friday, July 17, 2009 9:34 No CommentsIt probably comes as no surprise that what is arguably the greatest movie franchise in history has scared away any all competition with its Wednesday release. Don’t expect any big names or big movies this week, so if you’re not a Potter fan, or you were one of the thousands lined up for the midnight showing, you may be a little disappointed with what this weekend has to offer.
New on DVD: Haunting Van Wilder
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 8:00 No CommentsThis week in DVDs is a poor one; perhaps Potter has scared even the DVD’s away. The biggest movie coming out on DVD this week is Haunting in Connecticut and it’s only real release companion is Van Wilder: Freshman Year.
